Repower Gravely 5260

Some advice I got a quote from a Gravely Dealer to repower my gravely 5260 for around $1000 with a brand new honda gx 390 engine. I have a Kohler k181 on it now and it needs a new crank it cannot be turned down anymore and it also needs a new carb , points , coil , gas tank and a complete engine overhaul. I was quoted around $650 to $750 to rebuild the Kohler with Kohler parts and machine work with a good used crank. Anyone repowered a Gravely with a honda engine. I need to use this machine daily so I do not care to spend the money to have a good running machine I'm just a little confused on what to do. Thanks Matt

I don't have a Gravely and have TroyBilt and BCS instead. But I have been eyeing older Gravelys for a long time. Retrofitting to a Honda GX series would be a dream from an operational standpoint, assuming a good matchup. All my Hondas start with 1 or 2 pulls. Good luck, keep up posted.

Thanks - there is a lot of local guys here in my area with gravelys and most all of them have been repowering to the hondas for less issues of starting. The kohler K181 is a great engine but the parts and machine work adds up fast. I have used a ebay rebuilt kits but there not the quality of geuniue Kohler Parts.

The to re power a 500 or 5000 runs about $ 250 plus Engine.
