Monster, the only available gears for the Eco diesels are the 3.55 standard and the 3.92 as an option. The 3.21 gear is only available with the gas engines. Your window sticker says 3.21 but once the diesel is added as an option the ratio is changed.

I have a Hemi and my window sticker said I have 3:55 ratio but actually I have 3:21s, oops on Chrysler and for that mistake, they gave me a life-time, bump to bumper, zero deductible warranty. Chrysler does not offer their life-time warranty on the Eco diesel and I wonder why.

Life time, bumper to bumper warranty; wow, I would keep that truck forever.

I wonder how many trucks slipped out of the factory this way? Was it on purpose to keep the mpg numbers up or just a honest mistake?

99% of the drivers wouldn't know where to look to see what they really have.

Are you sure it is bumper to bumper and not just powertrain? Lifetime bumper to bumper with zero deductible seems a bit of a stretch to me.

Our local Dodge dealer offers a "free lifetime warranty" on new cars and trucks too. Also offers "free batteries and tires for life". The catch to it, or so I've heard, is you have to get every single service done at their dealership and you have to follow the manufacturers suggestion for maintenance. They also find plenty wrong with your vehicle while they have it and claim the warranty doesn't cover it. As for the free batteries and tires for life, your battery has to be dead dead dead and the one they replace it with is junk. Same for the tires. They have to be about bald before they'll change them and when they do it'll be some junk tires like Nexen or something.

It was the norm rather than the exception. They switched suppliers for the drivelines in 2013 and didn't have enough inventory to install the 3.55's and in some cases the 3.92's, so 3.21's were installed in a lot of trucks, no matter what the order said. When I bought mine the dealer went out of his way to make it clear what ratio was installed which I thought was a little unusual at the time. However it makes very little difference in performance because of the 8-speed auto, which essentially has two bull low gears. These trucks jump off the line with almost no throttle.

How many of you guys would have picked a gas option if it was available on the diesel tractor you now own? Hmm...?

I would if it had the similar torque and more HP, less upfront cost, fewer emissions crap, etc. Like the hemi to ecodiesel comparison.

Tractors typically run using low torque at constant speeds which fits perfect to the diesel design.

..... I guess that is why the majority of the truck freight movement in North America and Europe is done using diesel trucks  I am starting to see that the Ford drivers (and some other makes) are grasping out straws to denigrade the Dodge Ram 6 cyl diesel because their favorite truck maker didn't do it yet........meanwhile some folks can just appreciate good engineering and marketing thinking no matter who made it...eg aluminum bodies on Ford trucks........I hope that idea catches on.

Nailed it. Funny how people can't just appreciate the fact that we are finally getting 1/2 ton pickups with fuel efficient diesel engines. Heck I was excited about 3 years ago when Mahindra was going to release a basic pickup with a diesel engine but it fell through. I could care less who makes them, I think it is a great idea.
