Eddie, I feel your pain. I have known 2 superb Taxidermist, fortunately one is about 12 miles from my house ( he is a SC scorer and has many award/ competition "ribbons") unfortunately he is expensive and culls what work he will take now. Getting my wife's 1st and only buck done cost $650 this year, but he is good and it will be worth it over the long-haul. The other one is in Burleson Texas. James Avery Tate, did quite a few for me in the 80's and early 90's ,but I don't know if he is still in business.

My brother in laws brother is also a Taxidermist, but he quite when he went into the hunting video deal, he also makes and sells the BOGgear BOG-POD I think its called. He did great work.

Their 1st couple trips over they mounted everything, now it's just getting hides tanned, then shipped over, supposed to be less hassle doing hides that way, IDK.

We love Mother Nature and hunting is just part of her; many hobbies are related with her. Below is a result of one of these hobbies: deer sausage.

Who did you hunt with and what part of South Africa did you go to? Did you get a Nyala?

Eddie

No Nyala taken on this hunt, but they are all over the ranch, had to move them off the walkways at night between the pub and the bungalow. The hunt was through NB Safaris in Limpopo SA.

What do you do with the meat from those animals? Do they distribute it to the locals? Sell it?

Fordman,

You eat what you want to eat; the rest is given to the local villages and churches. Not a morsel of the animals goes to waste-- really quite amazing how efficiently it is distributed. We have a broken welfare system, Limpopo still uses the old "community support" system we used to have in the States 60 years ago.

Great to hear that! Yes, we really need to return to our roots on some things like that.

OK. I'll be in the Eastern Cape in August for a couple of weeks hunting Nyala and a few other plains game with Bennie Lategan.

It's taken longer then I thought, but through Facebook and word of mouth, I found a taxidermist who is experienced with African animals and does really good work. His shop is spotless clean, very organized and well laid out. He uses top quality forms and eyes and he sends his hides out to a quality tannery to get tanned. He doesn't advertise and he does this full time, which is another big plus!!!! Best of all, he is less then half an hour away in Gilmer. I went to take a look at his shop and thought I'd be there half an hour tops, but after we got to talking and telling stories, two hours had passed :) Taxidermist always have the best stories!!!

Beautiful ducks! I had a male and female mount done last year. Got both ducks with one (lucky) shot!
