John Deere 1026R
I purchased the 1026R last year with R4's and they do an excellent job in the woods with the loader, but in my grass which tends to be softer and wet, I am tracking and sometimes tearing things up. The nature of grass in shade is the culprit as in the open the grass is tougher and the R4's are no issue.

Going to JD to buy another set of Wheels and Tires is $1k. Are there some alternatives that some of you have done? I know that the tires are higher ply (maybe 6 ply?), not sure if the Turfs are as well.

If anyone has a complete set to fit this tractor that may also be an option. I am thinking I just have two sets of wheels. If I get into serious loader work, I'll put the R4's on. Alternatively, I could put Turf's on my wheels and try them...

Your info is appreciated with regards to sourcing (I don't need any advice on R4's vs Turf at this point).

Thanks,

I've seen posts here where Kubota dealers get $400 -$500 for a set of turfs and wheels for the BXs, which use the same size tires I believe. Maybe buy those and paint the rims yellow and keep $500 in your pocket. Just make sure the rims would mount to your hubs.

Yes. I've bought several complete sets of tires mounted on wheels from Kubota through their Whole Goods for $450.. $1000 is simply too much.

Kubota, really? I thought Kubby used 8" fronts? Actually, orange rims wouldn't look too bad on green, it would look like an old Oliver or something.

Have you thought of getting a set of "HDAP" tires? They give good all around traction for dirt, snow, and turf. No good in mud. It's what I've had on my 2210 for 10 years. I believe they are only 2 ply tires and not good if you are pulling hard, the rears will 'twist' under heavy pulling. They can tear soft grass a little if not careful , but great in the snow.

BX fronts are 18x8.5x10 except on the 18hp model which uses 8" rims.

megotatractor...You said you used HDAP tires, I have a question about them. I'm in really hilly territory. NE Tenn. I have a problem with going sidewise on my hills and then turning up hill. With turf and R-4's there is a lot of spinning which tears up everything. Had and have both filled for weight. Was wondering if the HDAP would do a better job as they have tread on the sides a little? I'm thinking of either getting the AG's or the HDAP, just not sure which. I do everything with my tractor which by the way is a 1026R JD. The R-4's are better then the turfs but not as good as I'd like to have. I had a 2210 with turfs on them. I don't get much snow to use my tractor on but I know that the R-4's are no good in snow on hills as I tried that this past winter. Thanks...Levi

The HDAPs get good traction, but are too lightly built to use with a loader, or pulling heavy loads. The only time I have used them on my 1026R is when mowing.

Well I'm glad to know that. Guess it's down keep getting the R-4s or to get a set of the AGs. Most of my hours come from mowing but I use my loader, tiller, chipper, disk and box blade as use indicates. I'd just like to have more traction without ruining my yard. Thanks, Levi~~
