Well, at least in one patch.

Coons got under, over or thru my electric fence. Knocked down a half dozen stalks and ate the corn. I put out some traps and baited them with marshmallows. Had been told coons liked them.
Didn't work, they knocked down more the next night. Went back and wrapped marshmallows around the electric fence wire. Put grape jelly on the marshmallows. Found them on the ground but no corn down. They didn't come back after getting shocked in the mouth. We got all the corn out. Six rows yielded 300 ears.

Now I have twenty three more rows at another farm.

I've always found that the sweet corn is ripe the day after the coons ate it!

Pesky critters.

Peanut butter on a saltine always works for me.

Hmmmmm...... Although we have coons, they never got in my corn. The black birds ate the corn - the coons ate the cucumbers - the deer ate anything they could get their lips on and the pocket gophers finished off the spuds and carrots. I've used peanut butter mixed into dog kibble to bait coons. We were able to keep a garden for three years - then we gave up.

Now we know why many rural residents find the best varmint/coon defense is an alert dog and the application of lead poisoning.

Connibear #220 bucket set works well to permanently keep a particular coon out of the corn, or chicken coop.

And a nice nap in the afternoon so you can stay awake to man the lead poisoning dispenser.:D

Dry cat food works good in our coon traps.
We have to cable tie the traps to a fence post, as one old boy rolled one over and over from inside and we found the trap and him still snarling
down in the woods about 100 feet feet jammed against a fallen tree branch.
We have a 7' high plastic mesh fence around the garden that keeps the deer out. Electric wire only works if the animal has feet on the ground when touching it with nose.
We see deer all the time schooching down and crawling between the wires of our 5 wire high tension fencing that is electrified around the pastures.
Easier than jumping over, I guess, and they learn not to touch it with their nose very fast.

Probably a little warm now but coon is pretty tasty meat if handled well.
