Will John Deere industrial have the right hydraulic oil for me?

I checked with JD industrial today. Asked for JD 303 (what my manual calls for) he said he never heard that before and tried to pull up info about oil and tractor with no luck.

He said a lot of new equiptment runs engine oil in all hyd components and that any equipment that needs hyd oil either gets 36 or 42 viscosity oil.

Would either of these work for me?
Is there a brand you would recommend?
Thanks

Stay away from that parts person. I have no idea how he could walk past pails of Hy-Gard and not know what they were for.
Oil has to be wet clutch compatable .

I would not listen to that dealer - wasn't Brandt Tractors by any chance was it? They cost me a lot of money when I rebuilt the engine in my 69JD450 - they supplied me the wrong parts not once, but twice and I was charged a restocking fee would you believe.

Try Greenway Equipment in Kamloops - they are JD Agricultural equipment 250-374-9727 or toll free 1-800-322-5845. My immediate neighbours have used this company for years (they have two newish JD tractors).

Sorry I can't help on your tractor.

Actually 20 psi when oil is hot would be fine. 100 psi when cold is way too high. you are risking blowing oil filter cap at that kind of pressure. The pressure is adjustable on this tractor with a screw on the tachometer drive housing. It is almost visible in the photo you posted. Below where the tach cable attaches you will see a long hex cap sticking out. Take a 9/16" wrench and remove the cap. under the cap you will find a slotted screw. LOosen the jam nut and back out that screw until you get a max of no more than 50 - 60 psi with cold oil this time of year. It shouldn't affect the pressure at low rpm with hot oil. I wouldn;t be concerned with hot slow idle oil pressure as low as 10 psi. The sending unit on the original idiot light wouldn't turn the light on until it dropped to 7 psi. If pressure is dropping too low with hot oil, you either have a worn pump or loose bearings.

Or possible loose bushings in balancer shafts

Awesome. Thanks for the info jd110. I'll be doing oil change anyways this weekend with a thicker oil and will adjust the pressure down.

Any recommendations for a good hyd oil to run?

Draagyn,
Please post back and let us know how you made out.
I find the people on this website are more than willing to help out when someone has questions or problems - not too many others work that way.
Having a local owner fix something is always of interest.

Just did oil filter and 7.5L fresh 10w30.
Backed oil pressure screw out 5/8 turn to achieve 60 psi at a 1000 rpm cold idle.
Let's see how it does when it warms up.
