case 580c no fuel to injectors

Case 580 c backhoe with stanadyne db fuel injection pump. Fuel is going into the pump - I put a piece of 1 1/2 pvc pipe onto pump inlet with 1+ cup clean diesel. Been trying to start it for 2 hours. Used up all the fuel in pipe, but none is coming out of the injector couplings or return lines. Any ideas?

What happened before all of this? Did you run it completely out of fuel?

If fuel is going into the pump, but none coming out at the injectors, it has to be going somewhere. I'd fill the pipe up with fuel again and try some more.

Last time I used the backhoe was last fall. Ran fine, no problems when I shut it down. Did not use it all winter, tried to start it a week ago and it wouldn't start. Im thinking fuel is being pumped by shaft seals and going directly into the crankcase. Only a cup or two of fuel so far since it wont start, but that isn't enough to see the oil level rise on the dip stick. Your thoughts please? Thank you.

Most likely the fuel valve is stuck in the off position, you will need to go into the top cover on the injection pump.
I don't know if this is something you want to do yourself?

Responsible ownership of equipment means you run it for five or ten minutes at least once a month, even if you're not using it. That said, once you see the engine oil level increase from fuel dilution it's too late, you have lost a whole engine's worth of lube oil. Oil analysis is the only way to detect early dilution. Curious, why aren't you using the fuel tank? If you didn't treat your fuel and had a dose of water or diesel bugs in the tank when you shut it down last Autumn chances are it's a big corroded mess inside. But if you're feeling lucky do like Winmac says and pop the cover and see what you have.
