Mow 8 acres for $750? **** im moving to wisconsin

What do you get where your at? Do you charge per acre or by the hour? I tried figuring it by the hour, with about 1 acre per hour or so because of half being rougher with rocks and some obstacles and also that hiull to do, that will take extra time to. Im interested to hear how it is priced in other areas.

I have also seen that shredding (bush hogging) prices vary widely around the nation. I would get about $300.00 to shred 8 acres of pasture that is flat, has no obstructions and few trees to mow around. In those kinds of mowing conditions I can make about 2.5 acres per hr with my 58 pto hp tractor and 7' shredder. The price per acre will go up for rougher terrain.

That said, I just priced 4 acres at $450. This property was very rough. It will be hard to see any obstructions, lots of trees to mow around and the vegetation is what we in West Texas call shinnery (scrub oak). I would not subject my tractor and mower to those kind of conditions so I offered to use my skid steer with a front mounted mower. With that combo I can only make about an acre per hour. The skid is also good for rough hilly terrain.

When people ask me why I use the skid rather than the tractor for mowing in rough conditions (at more expense) I tell them that the rear tires on the tractor cost about $600 each to replace if I ruin one of them on their property (turns an otherwise profitable job into a bust). The tires on the skid are foam filled so flats and ruined tires are not so much of a problem.

Good luck,

Tim
