MF dozer ID, and advice

Since the tranny isn't working, I'm guessing a bit, but based off the parts manual, I think it's the hydraulic shuttle.

I operated a MF 100 dozer away back in the early 70s and had a manual transmission with a foot clutch and FNR lever on the left side of the dash. Gees that's going along way back, didn't have earhair then

heres to ya, that ya just need to do some adjusting of things and get the transmission working again!

since ya initially checked oil, and then ran it, have you rechecked oil? perhaps some air was trapped in transmission some place, and ya need to fill it up some more.

MF never made a 100 dozer. New undercarriage may or may not be available depending on the model. MF300 undercarriage isn't available from what I've read. If you look on the bottom of the oil pan, it should have the casting date to give you an idea of when it was made.

Small Dozers in good condition go for a premium here... if you can find someone that will part with one.

Thanks guys...I really can't wait to get this baby back up and running. I've spent a lot of time going over the machine, and the parts manual, just to get a feel for where everything is. I'm hoping that it's simply a linkage in the shuttle shift control, but may try to put a gauge on a line from the pump that supplies the shuttle shift to see if it has pressure...luckily that pump is available, and it's only $250, if it's bad.

I have rechecked the fluid in the tranny, and it seems to be full, or close enough it should work. I've confirmed it's a hydraulic shuttle, and when you move the lever, or the linkage, it's not connected to anything.

Funny thing, but a mechanic at work is dying to buy it from me already. I may work a deal where he gets the tranny sorted out in exchange for use so he can fix up his dad's pond. I also happened to find a Craigslist ad for a similar machine (manual shuttle) locally, and they're asking $7500 for it!

Asking price is just that. It's really hard to compare machines without knowing anything about them. Hopefully it's a simple fix to get it working.

I doubt they'd get $7500 for that other machine, and I wasn't really making a comparison...just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

I talked to my neighbor some more, and he said that when the tranny stopped working, he put a gauge on the lines from the hydraulic pump to the transmission, and were getting very little pressure (like 70psi). So, I pulled that pump off today, and confirmed that the pump drive was working. The shaft would barely turn, so I thought that was the problem. When I went to split the pump I noted that someone had cranked down on the bolts ridiculously tight. As soon as I took a bit of pressure off, bingo the shaft turned freely, without any binding, play, or weird noises. There was evidence of RTV on the face of the pump, and I'm wondering if someone didn't crank down on those bolts because there was a slight leak they were trying to stop, and didn't realize they were the wrong bolts. I'm going to reinstall the pump and see what happens tomorrow.
