I did not say I liked the way some trailer ramps are made. The trailer I attached belongs to another member, Not me. I just posted to show pjb09 what I was talking about. When I had a trailer like that I always hunted for a level spot to load or unload.

Mark, that's why I mentioned the ramp feet to pjb. I have been on a few of those wild rides in the past. Personally I own a 20' tilt bed trailer and a 24' enclosed trailer for vehicles and a 16' dump trailer. No ramps on the tilt bed, back drops completely to ground for easy loading. If I were to have a non tilt bed for vehicles I would install the swing down adjustable jacks on the back sides of the trailer like pjb is going to do.

Thanks... sorry for the newbie questions. I am quite familiar with double axle trailers for boats but I haven't had the pleasure of using a trailer for a tractor or loading heavy stuff on land! I am probably going to buy a trailer at some point for my BX as I think it is a little too ambitious of a weld project for me (at least any time soon). Regardless, I sure want to know the advantages/shortcomings of particular designs.

dragoneggs you can't build a trailer as cheap as you can buy them. Olympia has a Big Tex, and PJ dealers. Might want to think about a dump trailer.

Yeah pretty much what I was figuring and besides the money, I don't really have the time or big enough shop. I guess I should squelch this thought completely, eh? :laughing:

I'd give you hand building it, you could use my shop too

. But trust me you can't buy the steel for what a new trailer will cost. Then the cost of paint will just floor you.
When I built my gooseneck adapter for my flatbed trailer I got a screaming deal on the beams off Craigs list up in your old stomping grounds. When it was all said and done, not counting my labor I saved $600.00 over buying new.

If you really want to get clever, put a tongue jack on each rear corner. Each side is now infinitely adjustable for slope both fore-and-aft and side-to-side.
