This year; 1.68

I have no idea why either.

It,s $1.90 here for pre buy.Glad I use just 400 gal.per year.I had our 500 gal. topped off in early july for $1.40 per gallon.I burn wood pellets to heat with.Happy to say I have saved a bundle of $$$ the last 10 years burning the wood pellets verses propane.

We think on parallel lines. I just reserved 5 ton from the local TSC. Been roasting pellets for at least 15 years here, on my second pellet stove and second venting, wore the first one out but still sold it for half what it cost. Pellets have remained pretty stable cost wise for the last couple years.

My propane went up about 15 cents on pre-buy. I book 1000 gallons every winter (I heat the shop too).

Not sure how much I've saved over the last decade but it has to be appreciable. I used corn until the price got stupid.

You bet we think a like.Propane prices back 10- 15 years ago were 99 cents to $1.18.When the prices started to reach $1.89 we invested in a wood/corn stove and it paid for itself within the first few years. We love our Pellet stove, better heat IMHO.

Pre-pay price here was $1.74 this year. Last year $1.54 I think. "Price cap" this year was $1.89 (down to $1.84 if cash/paid within 5 days) but that costs $70 to enroll. Last year that was $1.69. I quized the supplier before I did the pre-buy...apparently one of the major supply pipes is now pushing NATGAS north (thanks to those fighting the proposed Keystone pipe). Another factor will be the fall corn crop...we have a big shift away from corn this year so in theory not as much corn to dry but weather is what it is (crop got in the ground late and it hasn't been great corn growing weather so far). I've been told that best guess is to expect $2+ again in January.

I checked my local supplier a few weeks ago, it was $2.29 gallon. The lady told me to call back near the first of August as they
expected a drop. I just called again and a different lady said its still $2.29 a gallon and no drop is expected. I am at 18% so I am holding
out a little longer. I paid $1.71 last year, no idea why it is so high in this area. I am starting to think my supplier is gouging me.
I do have options.

Central Tennessee I got $1.59 summer fill or pre-buy which I thought was good.
I rented the gas companies tank last year for $50 yearly. Plus, if I wouldn't use double the 500 gallon tank capacity I would get dinged $.50 a gallon for every gallon less than two complete tank fulls.:confused2: In other words, I would have to pay $.50 for every gallon less than 800 gallons usage per year.:mur::mur:
Naturally I bought my own tank so I only pay for what I use, and plan on burning mucho wood.

We in the icefields don't have the luxury (last winter I think we broke the record on # of days below freezing). You being from TN, if you run into ALGORE tell him we need to talk. But anyway, as NATGAS becomes more widely available the LP tanks are getting plentiful. Our Co-op has the similar usage requirement you describe but with so many tanks available for next to nothing I doubt they would ever enforce it...there are a number of suppliers around here and owing the tank let's me shop.

I just moved to Hohenwald TN last fall from Fox Lake Wisconsin after 64 years to get away from the blasted snow. In that location you pay rent if you don't use much propane, which is fair, but here they really clip you double. And Al Gore sucks by the way:D

I had to look up Fox Lake! I used to have some business clients in Mayville and Fon du Lac so I guess the climate is not much different. NatGas is coming everywhere they can get it...surplus LP tanks are everywhere if you can haul them. And I notice the fees for recovering unused LP are getting sky-high plus the LP supplier seems to make sure the tanks are topped up...I think they are getting nervous.

I buy retail, so my prices are twice what most of y'all pay. Have you seen this site that shows the last quarter's prices?

U.S. Weekly Heating Oil and Propane Prices (October - March)

7/28 I paid 2.759/gal for 250 gal delivered to my remote location. I have a 1000 gal tank, but rarely burn 300gal. The reserve is for running the 20KW generator when power is out for extended periods of time.
