is 78 hp really enough to push a mulcher

I am looking to get a machine with a mulcher. my cat dealer says a new 289d with a cat motor with 74 horse rated at 78 hydrolic hp 32 gallons per min an i wasting my time or what

A neighbor runs a forest mulcher on an old 763 Bobcat with far less hypo flow. From my own research, most forest mulchers are good to go with 30 or more gpm.

I would suspect the HP depends on what size trees you want to mulch & how fast you to get the job done.

it will be slow, ran one on tak 150 and it would stall easy
