Will be picking up my Miller 211 next Friday.I have been using a HF 170 for now.I have a lot to learn and the 211 seems to be a good start.Plenty of projects and repairs on my hobby farm.Need repair on my 3 pt hitch spreader, new log splitter build, etc etc.Looking fwd to getting a decent welder.Did I make a good 1st real choice ? I also have a used ,never been used Lincoln 225 ac/dc stick that I want to learn to use.And hopefully get a plasma cutter by the end of the year---leaning towards a Miler 625.Any tips from you experienced hobby guys ? Thanks Ed

Milkie, nice purchase, what'd you give for the 211 if you don't mind me asking. I was looking at them as well, may pick one up. I just put in a new sub panel and receptacle in the garage. I am just learning. I have the same little Lincoln AC/DC stick machine, picked it up on CL a few months back.

Lots of good advice from the guys on this site, Shield Arc included.

Yep! Sweet machine... it is too good for me :D I was amazed when SA showed me its capability. I'm not experienced but I would highly recommend it from set up, ease of use, power, and build quality.

I got my eyes on eyes on a 375 or 625 plasma as well. Thought it would make a great companion.

Well I do not have a price yet but the Miller rep promised me a great deal. Will let you know next week. I think I need somewhere along the lines of the 625 plasma cutter since my major build will be a log splitter and will be cutting some thick steel.

Usually you ask if something is good before you buy it but a 211 is a good machine. That said, for your log splitter I'd probably use the lincoln and 7018 for the parts under stress.

I have a buddy a couple doors down that is a welder. He will be welding on the wedge, cyl hold down and any other critical spots .

Get your buddy to show you and maybe you can try some of the more critical welds.
