I'm a Woods dealer, and as others said, you bought their light duty cutter. You need the BB7200X. It has .25" side frame thickness, 7 gauge deck, 3"x4" full structural beams and a deeper deck. Its 1440lbs compared to your 828lb machine.

The "Woods" product isnt the problem here, your trying to take their lightest duty machine and make it do what their heaviest model will do.

I have a Woods MD72 ("medium" duty), it's been in use for 15 years. It's a bit beat and has had repairs from catching on things such as stumps, but I'm satisfied with it.

Obviously if you insist on mowing rock fields, a light duty cutter is not the right tool. However, light, medium, or heavy duty, none of them are designed for hitting a lot of big rocks. I would say that your expectations are beyond what rotary cutters are designed for. None are built as intentional rock crushers. No machine is designed for creating a pretty mowed rock field.

I agree with Ken, raise the cutter above the rocks or remove the rocks. If it were me I would cut above the rocks now and start clearing the fields of the larger rocks that are sticking up as time permits. None of the rotary cutters are made to crush rocks and cut well at the same time.

I have a homebuilt deck on my 307 Bush Hog components. It is solid 1/4" deck plate (deck plate is a bit thicker than standard 1/4 smooth plate)and still I have a bulge in the left side from a rock. I don't have any scarring to the upper deck though like the OP. I wouldn't advise anyone with property that grows rocks like mine does to go with anything thinner than 1/4" and I don't think anyone makes one any thicker than that.

The concern the OP has about shearing the grass at 4" height is the larger issue imo. I don't see how you can shear the grass and the rocks too and get good results. A heavy built deck might have less deformation but the blades are not designed to do what the OP wants to do.

4" height? I missed that. He needs to get rid of the rocks and get a finish mower. Nothing will take that kind of abuse.. Blades will not tolerate it no matter what the thickness of the cutter.

The point is the Land Pride did NOT get beat this bad in 500 acres and it's considered a medium or "standard" duty as well. In closer inspection it looks as if they reinforce the skirt on the sides. I somehow missed where the LP is 10ga and the Woods is 11ga although i wouldn't think 1 ga thickness would make that much difference. Most rocks hit are not really big, Under 4"-5" and usually in a gopher mound or such. It's just that granite don't shatter like other rocks. We walk all fields 1st and make piles & flag them. Every year there are more where we picked up the year before due to frost pushing them up. I blame myself for not catching this early on, (super busy) and running some 1/4" plate on the inside of the left side. A friend of mine who does the same work did that with his new Brushcat on his Bobcat a few years back and it has held up well. My mowing is ALL commercial. I do vacant lots in subdivisions and a lot of open land for fire mitigation. The 7200X is getting close to maxing out the tractor 3 point of 1,820# Tractor is an LS XR3037C BTW, NOBODY stocks anything heavier than the BB72X out here. Not sure why. Also not sure i could carry it with the tractor i have.....

Woods quality has been going down for years as it started in mid 2000 with mass amounts of failing gearboxes. Brown, Land Pride, Bush Hog all make good stuff with Brown being on top.

Found that out last night from the EX owner of 6 Deere dealerships in the Midwest. He said Woods has been getting a LOT of EX deere nickle squeezers in there and quality has went to crap..........

My local dealer dropped them a couple years ago due to all the problems they were having. On top of this they had a very difficult time getting good support once problems were identified. They now carry bush hog and land pride and so far have had good luck with both manufactures.

I am hearing this all over now that i am researching......
