Seems they're worried they will get dropped after consolidation within the cable and satellite industry. The big guys want big audiences. Subscription required but search this in Google News:

Rural TV Channel Circles the Wagons

I watch RFD-TV on satellite regularly.

I've often thought that niche channels like this would have good luck 'broadcasting' over the web. But of course, a lot of folks that would like to watch it live out in the sticks where they don't have high speed internet access.

I don't get it, so obviously I don't watch it, so it probably wouldn't affect me at all. I personally have never had much inclination to watch shows that made rural America look like a bunch of dumb, illiterate bumpkins or rednecks...not that they all did...but some, certainly did. Let's face it...city folks are running our lives...from the White House down.

I like RFD-TV and hope they can survive...
One of my pet peeves is cable/Sat. providers forcing subscribers to pay for packages of channels etc...
IMO the last thing America needs is more federal regulations but I would love to see the FCC force signal providers to allow customers to pick/choose and only pay for the channels they want...

Anyone recall when cable was just starting that one of the selling points was no commercials?

I often make that point when talking about satellite radio. How long do you think that the latter will remain fommercial free?

I'm surprised it's stayed that way as long as it has already (as long as you don't count promotions for upcoming events or other channels as commercials).

I think they will be more likely to hold the line because unlike pay TV providers, their programming comes from music libraries with relatively fixed and known royalty rates. Plus unlike pay TV their competition is your personal iPod or streaming service like Pandora, which plays just as well on the same radio that you get your satellite over.

RFD TV has pretty limited programming. The antique tractor shows have been on many times. And the horse stuff is really mostly adverts for the trainer or supplier. I rarely watch it anymore. TBN is a much superior way to waste time!!

I scan RFD-TV to see whats on but find few shows that I want to watch. :(
It's NOT Bumkins, some of the rural shows are real people, WITH THEIR PANTS PULLED UP!!!
I wish they would get with manufacturers and run some of videos of products being built. I could watch that 24-7!! I don't care if it is sort of an infomercial promoting their product.
I am addicted to "How it's Made" !!!!!

In February Comcast announced it was going to buy Time Warner Cable. Think about that for a minute: Two of the biggest cable monopolies with the worst customer service records will merge and dictate what 30% of America can see on cable TV. This means less choice, less competition and higher cable bills.

I believe that businesses should operate free of government intervention, but these companies are government sanctioned monopolies with the power to silence independent, competitive voices like TheBlaze if it furthers their business interests. The merger can only be approved if the FCC determines it's in the public interest — your interest.

You can help petition the FCC here.
