I have a Leinbach and it's been a good one. Use to have a Hardee and it was really heavy duty! Bush Hog makes a nice one as well. Whatever you decide make sure it has sealed bearings.

Thank you will make sure it has sealed bearings....you may have just saved me some headaches !

Disc plows require less horsepower to pull compared to a moldboard plow of equal working width. Typically higher ground speed (and area covered) is obtained. Depending on soil type and conditions (moisture etc) a finer and leveller surface may be achieved as opposed to using moldboard plows.

However if you desire to completely 'turn over' your soil and bury crop residue or grass so that it can compost, a moldboard plow is usually the better option.

Hope this helps.

Either plow will leave the field furrowed/rough, requiring one or more passes with a Disc Harrow as the next step, often with some sort of drag, such as a Chain Harrow, following the Disc. Only then are you ready to seed.

If rocks or other obstructions don't exist, a leveller result can be obtained utilizing higher speeds on lighter soils. The discs will 'throw' the soil farther, but will not do as good a job of burying trash if it exists.
I can't give any advice as to new disc plows but would be wary of older units as they may appear to be in good condition but have perhaps worn a couple of inches off the disc diameter greatly affecting its performance.

I grew up on the farm and have been using both types of plows for over 50 years.

Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Thanks ...will look for a set of Disc harrows.
