I have a 5065e 4WD with 553 loader, 90 hours and no complaints. I noticed today an o-ring on the upper mast end (extension cylinder ) around the cylinder but not up against the seal end ? I see no other corresponding o- ring on the other side or either of the curl cylinders. Is it supposed to be there? Do they crack and fall off? I don't see any abnormal leakage , just some dust sticking to the mast steel.i tried to attach pic

Maybe for spray painting at the factory.
I recall seeing them when FEL was new, but don't see them now.

So they don't perform any sealing function? This one is cracked and will fall off

You mean several are missing or you have 3 of 4. I am counting 2 boom cylinders and 2 curl cylinders. I am missing 3 of 4 with 4th one cracking and soon to fall off. I am thinking they must have been to keep paint out of cylinder ends and don't do anything that matters

Have 4 rings. On boom & curl cylinders. They seem to just be there. Perhaps they protected the rod seal prior or during cylinder assembly...

Are yours up against cylinder seal or just riding arbitrarily on cylinder plunger rod like mine not serving a function? My tractor is about 14 months and 90 hours old. Looks like they just age, crack and fall off. I will ask dealer if they need to be replaced. I am guessing no

Those are paint rings. To prevent paint from seeping into the cylinder. The setup tech is supposed to cut them off during the install.

What he said...they are just there to keep the paint off of the wiper seals, they should have been removed at setup.

Thanks guys. If they all 4 were gone I would not have known to ask. They looked insignificant; no leaks. Just makes you wonder when you see one.
