As a former training specialist, the day does come when you have ran your full course when dealing with people in a learning environment. You feel Your advice and experience isn't valued anymore. In most cases, that day comes with resentment. Sounds like he has ran his full course.

Well, I'm don't doubt this guy could weld, but I wouldn't want to drink a beer with him. Something tells me he would say it was the wrong beer, it should have been exactly 33.5 degrees, and would go on a rant about 3 legged vs 4 legged bar stools. I feel he had tons of experience but he always thought he had "THE" answer, and not one of several hundred Internet opinions. His simply was "fact", and there was no sense continuing the discussion once the master had graced us with his Word.

It seemed to me that he got in a huge pissing match over 110v welders and recommending that some 70 year old woman needed a 230v welder and then started insulting peoples welds and calling them hacks after looking at pics they posted of projects they had done with thier 110v welder. Basically going to great extents to be an all around jerk about it and when he got called out he threw atantrum like a child including cussing and took his ball and went home never to return.

I have no doubt the guy is really talented and has helped many people but his bully mentality and insults turned negative and extremely immature toward the end. It's unfortunate that he could not simply get over the 110v welder pissing match but he escalated it to a point where he felt the need to leave instead of simply letting it go and moving on.

I enjoyed sheild arcs posts and learned a lot from him however I feel just because someone has a mind of there own and disagrees with someone no matter how much exsperience is there right as a man, help who can be helped and leave it at that! I think it's immature to get in a huff and quit because 1 or 2 people may argue with you!

Whenever Shield decided he didn't like someone, the quality of his advice dropped substantially, and instead of advice he lobbed insults, then tried to use his years of experience to convince members it was "advice" he was giving.

That is the user that told me that:

I wasn't a real man becuase I owned an AC only machine

I was ashamed because I only owned an AC machine.

That I should try to hide the fact that I owned an AC machine because my friends and spouse wouldn't like me.!!!

Doesn't matter how much experience he has, if he did not aprove of your machine.. he insulted you.

Some of us are farms that need to buzz a piece of rusty metal to another piece or rusty medal, during a windstorm with some rain.. and need it to last 20 minutes while we pull a trailer in... Shield didn't realize that every welding project out there doesn't have to be x-ray quality and donw with a 1000-x$ gas mig with cnc setup.. and he ridiculed AC people endlessly.

I don't doubt one minute he has a ton of experience and good info to fill a library of welding books.

but his bedside manner was poor!

I guess I can now actually make posts in the welding forum again without him bumping in telling me i'm a bad person with no self esteme because of my hobart 235ACXL machine......

it's imature to insult people that don't own the equiment you approve of... that was a huge part of the issues.. if you look back of a few years of posts.

he didn't like your equipment.. he insulted you..... on one thread he was handing out them right and left and i actually saved screen shots. the bulk of that thread got pruned. Later on shield denied making some of the comments.. I pointed out i had screenshots in case he forgot... that earned me another few insults!

Reminds me of a time flying cross country on a USMC KC130. One of the rear doors (jump door , not ramp) would not correctly shut.
The crew chief and loadmaster took all of 2 seconds to figure out a solution and they hooked one end of a ratchet strap to the door, the other end to a tie down point on the floor and cinched it up - while we were taxing - and we took off.
By the book fix is academic when it is time to go.

Also, word to the wise while I am on the subject of Marine Corps aviation - NEVER get on a CH 46 this isn't leaking oil everywhere, because that means its empty and not safe to fly.

It was obvious from the beginning, to anybody with a few years experience, that Shield Arc had no experience whatsoever actually using 120v MIGs. Which is not surprising at all, when would he ever be near a 120v MIG? What is surprising is that a guy with so much genuine experience needed to pull such a stunt, extending his experience into unknown territory. And risk his credibility when it's so easily proven otherwise.

He then got ahold of a 120v MIG and actually started using it, and realized his "position" on 120v MIGs had escalated to a point of ridiculousness (for YEARS). Rather than eat a little crow, he's taking a break, doing the "miss me yet?" gig.

I got several usefull tips from Shield, but I had to steal them. Welding in little J's, slow the wire, up the voltage. Why didn't he just give these tips outright (to 120v welders) from the start? That's what members want to know.

If Shield will take a break this gives opportunity for other "less-outspoken" experts to come out of the woodwork. I'm tired of being the 120v expert because I really don't "know" anything. I'm looking forward to hearing advice from someone who actually wants to help. And maybe Shield will come back when this has all blown over. If he would keep going on his "discovery of 120v MIGs" and apply his knowledge, I think many members would welcome him back.
