WaxMan's Modifications to the 2013 Grand L 3240 cab

I 'm a fussy guy, My mods are made with some quality because I'm fussy. Unfortunately Looks mean a lot to me. I try do do everything so it works good but it must look good also.
I had B3030 The B2650 cab is no Grand L cab Night and Day difference.
I don't like the style of the New Kubota 60 series cabs or the new B series cabs, sorry Kubota, just don't like it.
Now this is only my opinion I know a lot of guys have these and like them but take no offense this is only my opinion.

The 40 series cabs have so much more style. The 60 series and the B series now are flat roofs that hang over square in the back of a rounded cab. They look more like flat canopies with glass under them instead of a cab tractor with some style to the roof. That was another reason I jumped to get a 40 series cab before they were all gone. The glass on the 60's is bowed out leading up to the roof instead of tapered to a styled roof. No thanks Kubota, they lost me with that flat overhanging style. There is no need to make a giant extra wide glass cab, there is only one person sitting in there. The roof should fit the glass like the last picture. Not just a flat cover that overhangs the glass.
The 40 series is rounded two tone and looks like it belongs to the tractor. Again this is just my opinion we all have are own.

I see what you are saying Wax and agree that aesthetically the overhang is not pleasing. I wonder if it is better functionally though?

My neighbor has green. The 3 point lower arm attach points are bolted through aluminum castings that support the rear axles, which are also supported by these aluminum gearboxes, one each side.

He's not a big guy, and kicked his lower arm to get it to slide on an attachment pin. The forward attach pin broke the relatively thin casting. Doing a bit of research, there are a few other's that have had the same problem, along with some who have had the whole axle simply break. Now, it may sound like I'm just picking on JD . . . other mfg's have their screw ups too. Just have a close look at what you're buying. Kubota is still made in Japan, some of it in the US, and assembled here. JD's small tractors are from India, I think, assembled here.

To me, that says something about quality.

It did seem on the TBN John Deere page most posts were about things that don't work.
Was that problem related to the 3 series 3320, 3520, 3720? or the new 3033R

Linex or Rhino liner looks nice but it's bad Ju-Ju if you have to weld something or refinish something. It has to be completely removed to weld or to repaint and it don't remove easily. I stay away from that stuff.

I doubt you can 'feel' any difference unless you get in, in your bare feet and even then I doubt it. It only 'feels' better in your mind. The actual benefit is nil.

I did not realize how slippery the factory step was til I had it linexed. My foot never slipped without the linex but the linex definitely made it nicer.

I agree about the roof on the L60. They look real bad from the back. I don't like the exposed rear window washer reservoir on the back of the tractor. I do like the hood and grill better on the L60. It is more modern looking. The dash looks nice too. The L60 is really nice tractor but there is not enough reason for a L40 owner to trade up.

I did this modification a few months ago and never posted it. I guess since I have it I'll post it.

Here is an example of how some of my projects start out and then the plans change as it is being made.

Started out with a nice big block of aluminum and just started working it to see where I end up.
I cutout for the two gauges then decided to bevel all the edges to minimize the size. You see it here rough I was going to buff it all up.
A nice solid housing it was, but it looked too big and bulky in my opinion.

So I cut it down as small as I could and stepped out the gauges with a couple aluminum rings I made for around the gauges to make the body look even smaller.
Plus I decided to place it vertically instead of horizontally. I thought horizontally I could have problems removing the loader with the gauge housing scraping the hood and hood guard if not careful.
There is a big size difference between the two housing but naturally I can't show the difference since it's the same one cut down.
It's mounted solid to the fel upright arm with one long SS 5/16 Allen head bolt.
Bottom gauge for the bucket, Top gauge for the fel arms, they both work independently. Both are on quick disconnects.

I guess I could have just wire tied a gauge to my hoses but that not me. At a glance I can see what my pressures are, its not really needed just another cool accessory in my opinion.
I wanted to see what the pressure is according to the load. What the pressure spikes are when transporting a load.

Wax, that is one sweet tractor... I have to be content with my BX but if I was closer and had a little more flat land, I would be in the running!

Waxman,

So, lemme get this straight . . . you are *seriously* considering dumping that orange compilation of many hundreds of hours of lovingly obsessive gold plate for a veritable mound of green algae?:confused2:

Or is this but an attempt to completely flummox the rest of us??

Thanks dragoneggs and Beltman60

I checked out the JD 3039 on Friday, drove it around and took some pictures. Also checked out the new feature E throttle.
John Deere now has E throttle like the grand L's Auto Throttle.
Only they call it E throttle, I talked to three different dealers in the past week to see if someone had a New tractor for me to look at. I had to explain to each of them that it had E throttle. None of them knew what I was talking about, none of their literature had any information on it. I found out about it on line on a couple of sites and confirming it finding the owner's manual.
My Kubota is definitely more a quality made machine and the John Deere is definitely smaller. Tier4 and plastic but closer to the size I want. Or Is this what I want?
I took the backhoe and Fel off to compare tractors.
