Lack of display Tractors at Fair??

Never really gave the vandalism a thought....but that is a good point. I like looking, and even sitting on the tractors that I may be interested in. Like to get a feel of what the seat and operator platform is like, and where things are located.

My 4year old also likes sitting on tractors. But under my careful supervision and me holding him while in the seat. Nothing to cause any harm to anything.

We did sit on the mahindra 6530. First thing he found right away was where the flashers were. He is always turns mine on first thing if we go for a little ride on the kubota:laughing:
How about this one- local Kubota dealer had a nice display at our recent small ag fair (23,000 attendance over 3 days.) JD dealer no longer participates as he does not want to force his sales guys to give up their weekends plus cost of trucking to/from (about a 15 mile RT-big deal) In any case Kubota dealer tells me he had to lock his one cab on display. Little kdi falls out of it, no injuury just a lot of dramatics. Yuppie mother runs over-not watching kid of course- and then gives the guy **** as..."you should have had mattresses under the door to protect against injury should someone fall out".

Like theysay.."you can't make this stuff up!"

Up until this year the California State Fair had a nice selection of antique tractors on display. There were also new Kubota and New Holland choices to view and compare to the old ones.

Not a tractor at this year's fair.

Here are a few from past fairs. I have many more photos.

Not related to tractors, but our local fair announced to the non profit food vendors that this is their last year. The Lions Club, Rotary, Catholic School charity, etc. are going to be pushed out in favor of the McDonalds, Burger King etc companies. Those non profits are very charity driven and help so many disadvantaged kids and families, it will be a shame for them to lose that funding. We have always ate there and made big donations, some years pitching in to help. An era and way of life is gone.

That no way to win friends. That's crazy. I predict a s***storm.

Our fair is the week of Sept. 14th so I don't know about this year. JD had 4-5 tractors last year. NH had three. No Kubotas except a BX at an indoor display. That was it and that's about normal.

The tractors not being there has been that way last 4 or 5 years for our northern OH fairs also including many small vendors for costs to get into fairs rose and attendance/sales dropped.

My personal trips to the county (counties) fair/s have been mostly a flop in last few years. As someone stated the local vendors are pushed out with HIGH booth fees and low profits when the fair fees are taken off the top. Then the economy has hurt a lot of people so paying 5 to 8 bucks for a sausage sandwich which may end up giving you some problems waiting in line for excessively messy/uncleaned rest rooms means the old family trip to the fair is going extinct.

One of my old co workers family ran a doughnut stand at the county fair from 50's on when I was a kid it was 5cents a piece or 6 for a quarter. as I grew up it moved to 10cents each, then a quarter. last time I was there they were charging a buck and half for one & were not making enough profit over the cost to operate & maintain rules regulations (cost of compliance) was so high they were talking last time at the fair last time I was there. I see they opened a couple trailers at moved to going to other local fairs and parking trailers out near business parks to try and stay open.

Tire kickers not welcome? Just thinking along the vandal line, maybe there is little purchase results to command continued heavy display participation. These still are very tuff times across America.

This is the first year I noticed it. Morrow co. fair. But I'll admit, I didnt go last year. Last year went to knox co. fair. I rarely go to both the knox and morrow county fairs in the same year. We alternate usually, just depends on work schedule and other things.

But two years ago at the Morrow Co. Fair, they had a nice selection. Hope next year when I go to The Knox co fair, it isnt a disappointment.

The wife and I have been to three of the local county fairs this year so far. Two of the three had minimal tractors/implement dealers. One had several dealers for each brand of equipment. All the fairs were within twenty or thirty miles or so.

I was interested in showing the wife the upgraded Kubota BX with the quick hitch on the bucket and try to convince her to consider an upgrading to the newer model. We looked at all the BXs we could find but so far have not found one with a quick hitch mounted on a display machine. I also wanted to try getting in and out of a cab, however, they were locked or wrapped in caution tape to keep you out. The sales people seemed bored and were less than helpful or interested in selling equipment.

I was using my wheelchair because I can not walk far enough to enjoy the whole fair and browse the equipment. Perhaps the salesmen disregarded me as a potential customer because of the wheelchair :confused3:. Perhaps it was the time of day, we went to the fairs in the morning not long after they opened. At one fair the salesman was sitting on a zero turn mower and did not move while several potential customers were milling around looking at machines and asking question.

Their loss. I can imagine it is hard to staff your top sales people at a fair, but they should have noticed you were a potential buyer.

I agree, the wife and I went to the fulton county fair in Ohio this past Friday and they had a decent JD display but that was about it.They had a boat load of older tractors displayed.IMHO if you want the REAL deal of tractors displayed the National farm machinery show in Louisville KY. is the place to go.
