No more galvanized bolts/nuts at my TSC ???

I occasionally find them, .. but not often. Usually when looking for bolts to put fenders on my tractor. the original would have a square shank like carriage.. but I don't like them as many time sthe hole wallows. or if the bolt rusts and loosens up a lil.. then it just spins and makes extraction hard.. have had to torch them before.

thus the hex head are easier for me for fender bolts anyway.

Interesting. You dont' see the hex head bolts with threads the whole way very often.

Another reason to shop at McMaster - they have both varieties. But I'm not sure on the galvanized since I don't think I've ever used them.

Looked and could not find why carriage bolts were no longer preferred per code. All the codes I checked still preferred them.

This article points to a power point and youtube that explain.

Here's what I saw back in June when I was getting permits for my pole barn, and I confirmed it with the inspector:

In the past this has been a great place to buy that stuff because it was priced by the pound and would cost 2X to 3X less than buying by the piece at Lowes/HD.
I think I see the problem.....

I buy specialty fasteners on eBay. I bought a selection of stainless steel metric socket head cap screws from the eBay store of a local metric supply outfit for less than they sell it locally. May not work for you because of the size and weight.

Is galvanizing being phased out due to to being RoHS compliance concerns. I know this has effected parts with zinc dichromate finishes.

Zinc plate w clear chromate is avail in RoHS compliant materials. You need a trivalent chromate as opposed to the previous hexavalent chromate. We get it at work all the time.

This may need another thread - but
Are there any mail order places that still sell by the pound?
AgriSupply seems to at $2.69/lb for all sizes,
Galvanized Hex Head Bolt 1/2 X 10
compared to Hiawatha where a SINGLE 10" cost $2.94

/edit I've got to drive from Ms to DC next week, it might be worth my while to go 60 mile out of my way to pick up a couple hundred pounds of bolts.
