Sometimes it's nice to stop and smell the roses. :)

OOPS, the mosquitoes have found me. Time to burn some diesel and head for the barn.

I almost always do that too when I'm out on the tractor. Tonight the sun was half way below the hills to the west when I headed for the house. I like to look at what went well, what's left to do, what's next for tomorrow. It's peaceful.

Yep, and this week too many things didn't go the way I wanted so I've been reassessing my priorities. While I may not have as much as many here do; so far I've been blessed with good health  and the ability to pursue my goals.
Isn't that what "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is all about? :D

As the sun dips behind the Pine Nut mountains to the west, the shadow sweeps the valley and up the east range. The high desert is alive at the end of the day. In winter, when the sun dips, the cold sets in and it's time to quit, get the fire started. Summer, it's time to enjoy the evening performance of the traveling shadow. A few deer wander by, rabbits scamper and the coyotes start their song.

There's a satisfaction in being tired. At last light I'm reviewing the day with a faint smile. Later still, I'm out for a moment with the dog and a quick look at the stars. Nice to be here.

I like watching the sun set. All the different colors especially if there are clouds around. And just sit in barn and listen. You can learn a lot about your surroundings. Then wife starts hollering about me not coming in and what am I doing. I say come listen. And it's always "listen to what". She gets mad when I say nothing. She's in to big of a hurry.

My wife and I have a favorite time every evening we can, spring summer and fall. Sitting on the back porch watching the sun set, the birds sing their last songs and go to roost. We just sit quiet and listen to the quiet. Then we talk a while and get up and do the things that still need doing, trying to carry the quiet with us.

I love to watch the sunrise in the morning. The hummingbirds usually start feeding about 15 minutes before sunrise, geese honking, ducks quacking, roosters crowing and the occasional peacock call. Springtime adds in all the frogs to the chorus so it really gets musical then. The Wife doesn't know what she is missing by sleeping in till 8 or 9 everyday.

Too bad some of the people in this world filled with so much hate couldn't learn to smell some of those roses it would be such a better world to live in .

That's why we are called country folk. We see, hear, feel, and experience all of the " little " things in life others shrug off. I have to travel from our rural life in SW Virginia often too the " Big Cities ", and I wouldn't trade my 80 acres in the mountains for a penthouse in Manhattan. Even now as I sit in a motel in Philadelphia as I walk out the door at every day 5:30 am, I stop and listen for the birds waking up. Just that little, simple sound brings a smile to my face and reminds me of home.
