TC 23 DA smokes and knocks

Hello.
I have a TC23DA tractor with only about 300 hours on it. I used it and it acted like the engine was hot even though the temp gauge showed normal .The tractor also was knocking and it soon stopped
( cut out because it was hot ?) Later when it was cool ,I noticed that the coolant level in the radiator was low; when I filled it water ran out of a hole about 1/3 of the way up the radiator .

I had the radiator repaired and put it back in. When I restarted the tractor it still knocked and smoked badly .
I would appreciated any ideas anyone has about this problem

The problem is you overheated it and it probably needs rebuilt now. I'd say you have a BIG problem. Time to haul it to a dealer or someone familiar with Yanmar engines.

Only on an abused engine. Water cooled diesels need water coolant to survive. You could have done a number of things internally but you probably stuck a ring and scored a cylinder wall. Time for some professional assistance, not internet forum conjecture.

NH boomers don't have a Yanmar engine as far as I know.
