Hey all,

I have a Ford 1900. There is a wire on the back of the Alternator that is hanging, dont know how it came off. I dont know where it goes? I am schematic illiterate. Can some one [ nicely, no remarks please] tell me where to hook it up to?

Thanks

It looks like it's a standard 3 wire alternator from doing some googling. There should be 3 wires hooked to the back of the alternator. One thick one from the battery or starter hooks to a 1/4 inch stud. Two thinner ones hook to a plastic plug which plugs into the alternator. Can you tell which one it is?

Thanks for your reply ! Other than the battery cable, there is only one other wire.

It must go somewhere that has 12 volts when the ignition switch is on. If it's hanging from the alternator plug can you tell from the length where it might go? Sorry I'm not familiar with your tractor model. Maybe someone else will chime in.

The only place i can think of is behind the instrument panel. but I dont know where. Ill take a picture of that.

Looked behind the instrument, everything has a wire to it.

pic's please ... this was probably a "conversion" and could be any alternator ...

do you have an idiot charge light or charging gauge on the dash ? ( conversion kits could have added them )

be patient , someone will identify the wire , once we have pictures ....:)

We can guess and guess but a picture is a thousand words, I have heard that before !

A picture of the back of the alternator, close... and maybe one of the connector ?

and please , "wipe/clean" the hanging wire and let us know the color ... it helps identify the circuit it belongs to .

The wire is red. Looking through the diagrams, I believe it goes to the starter.

I do not have a charging light, most of the lights do not work anymore. I wait for the glow plug to heat up before I start.

The large post on the alternator that is labeled "BAT" looks like it has no wire attached to it. If the large red wire came off there it probably does go the starter. From there it goes to the battery. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery so you don't get a nasty short circuit and fire.

It looks like all you have to do is reattach the wire to the "BAT" terminal on the alternator. I thought from your original post the wire was on the alternator but came loose at the other end.
