Yanmar 1802D
Hi,

We are in Southern California looking for the best place to find parts for our 1802D. Think we are going to need a starter. We used to have a fellow in our area who was great and was who we relied on for parts and repair but he passed away. We just replaced the battery so that isn't the problem, seems to be the starter. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Terry

There are some that don't want to work on grey Mkt. Tractors even for just a Starter Rebuild. I told my local repair shop that my Ym2000 starter came off a US. JD.240. And I was even in the Motor Yrs. before and reversed the Brushes before it finally gave up quit. The Repair Shop even commented about it and still had no prob working on it. Still it was only 72.00$ and thats been over 4yrs. ago problem free. May want to find a US. model that uses the same or close to the same starter just in case. ;)

Thanks for the replies. Going to try to go the rebuild route first. A local shop that works on alternators, etc. will probably be able to do it. No tractor shop in this area any longer so not too many choices. All other possible places for any kind of repair would require a long drive. The guy we used to have in this area would just come by the house and check it out and if necessary he'd load it up and take it to his shop. He is missed by many.

Fredricks Equipment shows the 1802 and the YM2500 uses the same Starter SM-1277 the YM2500 is basicly a US. JD.850.

The YM2500 has a Denso starter. It's the 1.4Kw type. I had upgraded to the 2.0Kw type as the cost was much less and is found in many Mazda, Toyotas, and Nissan vehicles. I'll Have to look in my maintenance records for the p/n and place. The cost was under $99. Plus you can buy one at your local AutoZone, NAPA, PepBoys, etc. Else expect to pay close to $200 or more from a tractor dealer. The starters are OffsetGearRedution types. or OGR starters vs. the older mentods of a solenoid. The same wires mount to either technology starter. The OGRs are more dependable and reliable.

Yup! My close good friend is a Master Mazda Tech. Been one for Yrs. And on average of 75.00$ Rebuiding it will be alot cheaper. Most if not all Starter & Alt. shops will provide a Warrenty also.

Just wanted to stop back by and say thanks for all of the replies - appreciate the help. Wound up having the starter rebuilt by Ace Alternators in Yucca Valley, CA. Tractor is running like a champ!
