Has anyone out there ever put tall wheels on a BCS? The wheels I've got (20" diameter) aren't even close to providing the clearance I need to straddle my raised beds (using 16" axle extensions, too). I've been doing secondary tillage by just running on top of the beds but it's extremely difficult to keep it on there (especially with the power harrow) and half the time it's so loose that dirt ends up plowing up under the tranny anyway. The tallest I see available via Earthtools is 23" diameter which I don't think will quite do it.

Has anyone custom mounted something taller on theirs? Also, anyone have ideas for some possible sources for appropriate wheels (something the same width as the standard BCS tire but maybe 4-6" taller) that could be easily drilled to the BCS stud pattern? Or is this just an awful idea that's going to bust an axle?

Thanks!

Nice... something like that might do the trick. Clearing the muffler is a thing to remember, too... I think the big extensions I got from Earthtools a while back should do the job. But wheels off a 4 wheeler, that's a good idea.

Thanks!

In my opinion bigger wheels are not going to put extra stress on the axles.
I have thought about bigger wheels to increase speed, if your tractor currently goes about 1.8mph in second gear with 20" tires it will go 2.4mph in second gear with 27" tires.

You know, I never remounted those wheels. If it weren't for the brutal cost of shipping to Canada, I'd sell them to you, adapters and all.

By and large, 5-12s do most everything I want them to do. Last Sunday, I demonstrated a root digger plow with my BCS 850 powered by a K440 diesel. I didn't even mount wheel weights. It just rolled the potatoes outta the ground. I had them hilled about 8 inches high, and I had 5 inch axle extensions and the rims mounted all the way out. You're right about the power harrow being rough on clearance.

I purchased a BCS 853 a few weeks ago and have been using the 26" del morino brush mower for clearing 6' tall grass. I purchased the 853 with the standard 20" tires. With the brush mower the clearance at the back of the engine was only about 4.5". Because of this small clearance the 853 got stuck several times. I purchased and installed 23" tires and even though the tires only have a 1.5" larger radius I got a 4.5" increase in the clearance at the back of the engine. This is mainly because with the brush mower the pivot point is the center of the mower. The clearance at the engine is now around 9" and I have gotten much better performance as a result of this.

I my opinion the 853 cannot be effective with the brush mower unless you have the 23" wheels.
