My BX is the first TLB I bought new...

Prior, my experience was mostly with Dozers and it made a great side by side picture with my BX next to my D3 CAT... the little guy did have a hard time keeping up at times... buy it sure made all those Dozer track disappear.

I was not directing my comment at you. I think we posted at the same time.

Having a discussion with Jay is like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, poop on the board, a strut around like it's victorious!

time to close this thread it has become bashing and boast fest by Jay and now Bullit

As a guy who has a full size backhoe (Case 580K) and a L I can tell you that my first impression of the loader on the L was "wow is it weak". Once I got to know the tractor and how to use the loader to the best of it's abilities I still find it weak but still very useful. Last weekend I was lifting 2 ton rocks to build a retaining wall with the 580k and that's when I realized that you get use to something and it sets the standard. The rocks I was lifting with the loader probably weighed close to what my L does. It's hardly fair to say that the 854 loader is weak because it can't lift the entire weight of the tractor. If you are coming from nothing then having a loader, even a BX loader, will feel like you are god. If you have a much larger tractor and add or switch to something smaller you are going to judge it based on your own personal standard.

Even though I can haul twice the dirt with the 580k my 4240 is usually my goto tractor for dirt work. It's faster, more agile, and now that I know how to use the loader I can move almost as much dirt in the same amount of time. At first I was always hitting the pressure relief and nothing would happen, now I'm much better at using the angle of the bucket, moving the tractor, and raising the loader at the correct speed so I'm more comfortable with the Kubota. Of course lifting rocks the size of a Mini is still very impressive (and that's why I still have the Case).

Smaller machines often require a degree of finesse to get the most out of them... be one with the machine... grasshopper.

Another point is loader needs to balanced for the weight/heft/center of gravity for the overall tractor...

A loader that could lift to make the tires pop or risk wheelies on every lift is not well balance.

I tested my loader moving 90# sacks of concrete... I could put 8 on the bucket and place them where I wanted from my truck...

I could lift 7 slowly and 6 was child's play... all on a loader rated at 460 pounds to full height.

Excellent idea! Thanks! I don't, and won't, have concrete bags around, but I'm probably due for a load of softener salt. I've thought my fel may need to be shimmed after 10 years and this would be a great test.

I've got a bunch of tractors over here, a little finesse with the BX goes a long way, and I have the runt of the litter, a BX1500. I'd like to try a B out for a bit, you never know. The way I see it for now though, I'll probably run her until she croaks and upgrade to a newer BX and yes, to bring the legend to life a Piranha Tooth Bar works wonders.

PS, I have turf tires

I'd like to try 'B' out too, but I was at my dealer today and eyed the height of the B vs the BX and am thinking I would have already rolled it on my steep hill. Yeah would absolutely love the extra power but I know now that CG is so important to me. So much that I need even a lower CG machine (zero turn) for mowing.
