Good afternoon everyone.

While clearing brush from land being cleared I backed into a small stump and bent my tie-rod bar. I caught the stump just enough with my right front tire and bent the bar. The tire now faces the 11 o'clock position. Easily removed the bar and planned to get a new one. $217, no way. I'll be plenty happy pressing the old on back to form.

Since the bar is curved when new, if someone with a JD 2720 or 2520 could give me the measurements from outside to outside of the bar, straight line or from grease fitting to grease fitting straight line, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Guess I better hook up the backhoe and dig out these little land mines before I do that again.

Thanks

From the looks of the tie rod in jdparts.com, the rod appears straight between each slight bend about 5" from each end (as estimated from the pic).

I'd start with pressing it back straight between those two bends and see if that is pretty close.
In the meantime, someone with one of those two models will help you out with the factory length.

Factory length doesn't matter and won't get you where you need to be. Get it as straight as you can, then set the toe-in between 1\8" and 1/4".

Edit. Blew up your photo, a non- adjustable tie rod?????? Stupid design.

After you're satisfied with your tie rod modification all you need to do is measure between frt tires even with spindles and have tires toed-in on frt side by 1/8-3//16's inch less than same on backside of frt tires. UPDATE: Rick you replied while I was single digit typing

EDIT I agree with Rick bad design.

I was going to say the same because I've done it before. Got caught on a stump and bent the rod. I ended up replacing the rod with a piece of schedule 80 pipe. I cut off the threaded ends of my old tie rod and welded them to the shed. 80. Reinstalled and set the toe. His pic does look like non adjustable. If it was mine I'd go to auto parts store and match up some tie rod ends and adjustable sleeves and weld them on to a sched. 80 pipe to replace the original.
If that's not an option just bend it back enough so your wheels are straight.
