Gee, 24" is a big bar for a 310... Do you cut hard wood? I'm sure it would work but it be working the saw. I have noticed that you guys over there run longer bars though. Here the 310, and the 390 come out in 20" which operate really well. I read on some threads guys chain the sproket sizes to get a bit mor chain speed to run bigger bars as well. Some of the Australian hardwood like the redgum, iron bark, yellow box and black wood are exceptionally hard. We don't tend to burn pine or softwoods here. I've never cut Oak but I would think it would be on the harder died as well?

I used to run my 310 with a 24" bar - mostly softwood but I also used it in hard stuff Black Locust mostly. It did not bog or slow down in the BL with 24". Of coruse I did use skip tooth chain.

Well, I have an old homelite with a 14'' bar with no brake, that I have used in the trees. It wasn't bought as a PRO saw ,and in my opinion it's not a pro saw ,but it is a top handle saw and is all metal . It was probably bought / made B-4 all the new top handle saws of today. I wonder if my Rancher 55 is considered a pro saw ?They say it isn't... It's old, is all metal case ( not plastic). Now my 372 is a pro saw (as they say) , but when I bought it , all the dealer wanted was my $ . He didn't even ask if I was a pro. I don't run the safety chains either. Maybe homeowners need to also only run the safety chains. No, I don't consider myself a pro tree climber, but I have all the climbing equipment and in my younger yrs climbed many a tree and limbed it out , before cutting the tree down from top to the bottom

I believe that if you stay with a name brand that has a reputation for quality you can't go wrong. Having said that, I have always been told to get a Husky if you use it every day, and a Stihl if you use it hard for a month then put it up for a year.

Mate, what sort of comment is that! If someone actually told you that and you a believe it then that speaks volumes about what you know about chainsaws. If you want to add input at least speak from you experience not "I've always been told to get a husky if you use it everyday, and a Stihl if you use it hard for a month then put it up for a year." That's just ridiculous!

I was not aware that the road crews, the loggers, and tree surgeons only worked 1 month a year, thats better then the schools teaches have it

Some one with a job not forestry related like road building and paving. You got to pay the bills and those trees will still be there when the project shuts down for the year. It is hard on the back doing four cord a weekend two weekends in a row when you have been watching (supervising) other people work. But hunting seasons coming and a chainsaw is not a legal method of taking your buck.

now thats ABUSE !!!!!
I think it's against the law! People who have chainsaws and don't exercise them and give them a chance to run WOT should be ashamed of themselves. Responsible saw ownership! :)

I have a Husky ?345? Has never failed me. Of course I'm on my 3rd one at the moment, having dropped a tree on the first one, and the second had a defective engine casting which they replaced with a whole new saw.
