Does pool water have to be disposed of properly

Chlorine dissipates very quickly when exposed to sunlight. If you know you're going to be draining pool, stop adding chlorine beforehand and don't worry about it. However, if your friend lives very close next to a water body or wetland where the endangered purple polka dotted salamander :frog: or some such lives, then chlorine could be detrimental.

When I was looking into getting a pool, the water department said that I was to never dump that much water into their system. They do not any more water in they treatment system. The more water, the more it dilutes the solids and the harder it is for them to process it. I was told to drain it onto my land or into my pond.

We had a domestic water leak from a underground water main. We had to report a "release" to the ministry of environment and to the CNSC.

Keep in mind some municipalities meter your sewage. Dumping that much water into the sewers might cause a heart attack when you get your bill.

Clean water from the pool dilutes the pollution in our streams and rivers. Can't have that.

Well, there's chlorine, cyanuric acid, and algecide in the majority of swimming pool water. It kills bacteria and insects, neutralizes pee and poop, and if you thow a fish in a swimming pool it usually dies in a day or so.... so, no, we can't have that. ;)

I suppose you're right. I was being cynical about the regulations.

Anyway, you shouldn't drink water.... fish poop in it.

The local water company was fined for letting drinking water run into a creek... a main broke.

Funny thing is the fire department can use many thousands of gallons of drinking water to put out a house fire and it goes into the same creek.

A new ordinance popping up is containment of water in building fire sprinkler systems in several communities...

When we had a chlorine pool, the moles undermined it, and 12,500 gallons went onto the ground in about 4 mintues and soaked into the lawn and was gone in about 10 minutes. Didn't affect the lawn at all."......
Chipmunk did the same thing to our pool, 5 days before our house sale closed. Lawn was fine.
Home pools do not require a high concentration of chlorine. At end of season, ours was always pretty low when we drew the pool down to winterized it. I always drained into the yard with no I'll effect.
On the other hand, years back a nearby municipality mistakenly drained a public pool into a trout stream causing a die off.
