What beenthere said,,, What happened to the old engine ? Several of the kawasaki fh6xx and fh7xx fit that mower (1 1/8 diameter x 4 inch shaft) but unfortunately these are not a series of engine where there are a lot of them used laying around.

eBay has some parts and pieces for these series,, and I did find a reman long block (950.00).. The point being this might not be easy or cheap..

its the 23 hp kawasaki I believe,, in spite of taking very good care of it, it overheated and warped the head I'm told
and your right Drbill used is nonexistent & this will take more than a days pay lol

Rives, thanks for telling us and sorry to hear your problem.. I haven't seen it personally, but I have read of some kawasaki head problems.. Seems on most I've read it's been a twin air cooled kawasaki and the posters mentioned that the fins had plugged over time with debris causing the head to get too hot..

Maybe a head might be easier to find, I don't know. With the good oil maintenance you had given the engine I'm figuring the rest of the engine should be ok hopefully.

Best luck

Neighbor had that problem when the mice built a nest under the cover of one head. Happens all too quickly and without a clue sometimes.

After reading these post, even giving advice myself, I'm reminded of the fact I own a 20hp kawasaki with 300 hours.. I think before next mowing season I'm going to lift the covers and shrouds that I've never considered doing till now..

Beenthere's story of the mice nest pushed me over the edge... My gt235 sits in an unheated outside garage all winter with a battery minder attached and sta-bil in the tank. I just thought I was covered..
