Wire from alternator on Ford 1920

You'll need more than just that "one' wire to make it charge.

Not if it is a Delco model 10-SI : https://www.google.com/webhp?source...4&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=one wire alternator

But her's is a newer model so I don't know if it will work with one wire.

I would try it.

It won't work with her alt.
She has a CS 130 SERIES ALTERNATOR from the 1990's,
it has a 4 pin connector,
most likely this type of configuration,

This alt will have either an "F" terminal or an "I" terminal, but not both.

If the alternator has an "F" terminal (i.e. no "I" terminal):
It must be excited by the L terminal.

so now we need a picture of the connector ( and pins ) to figure out which "extra wire" is going to be needed on the half converted alt , to make it fully functional ....

some need a bulb / resistor ( or both for backup ) and some just need an extra wire....

but we still need that big wire going back to the battery in any case...

I could not get the cap off, its in a tough spot.

OK then still run the new wire from the "bat" on the alternator back to thew positive post on the battery ( you'll need it in any case )

then start the tractor and rev it up over 2000 a couple of times ... then check the voltage at the battery ... over 13 volts means the unit is charging ... ( can't hurt to try it first )

if it doesn't charge , you will have to add an additional circuit ...

It looks like something has been added to the pins and the connector filled with potting compound.

It might be easier to run an 8 gauge wire from the alternator to this end of the new battery wire.

yes I saw that too... maybe someone has already "reconfigured" the alternator to a 1 wire unit ...

wire to starter is easier for most of us ...

but sometimes when you "loosen" that nut , the solenoid cracks ... hence the reference to connecting to the battery post ....:)

You'll have to remove "clean" the dielectric grease from the terminals in your first picture.
If you look closely, you can see the pins are named,,SFLP

Here's how to wire them up...

Run a wire from the "F" pin to a wire that has power "only" when the key is on.
Do as the others have suggested in regards to running a wire to your battery or starter,,
then, take a wire and put it on pin "S" and connect to wire that goes to your battery,
as seen in the diagram, that "S" wire is a sensing wire, it will monitor your battery voltage and charge it as required. The "S" wire can be connected just behind the alt on the battery wire.
