Why a 3/4 ton for only 10K? Either way both are ok but to me the Ford with its solid front axle is just a tougher setup and comes with a much better transmission.

Chris

I thought you were suggesting a one ton not a half. I like a lot of safety margin. I would much rather run a truck at half its capacity than at its max. It will last a lot longer.

I am looking at buying a 2015 3/4 ton gas 4x4 truck for work. Any advice or is it really just a matter of personal preference?

Both brands are capable, which one will offer you the better deal?

Ford all the way. That is all the towns buy.
Not all towns, ours is GMC.

The straight front axle on the Ford/using it snowplowing and being on Maine's bad roads were why I chose the Ford.
Historically anyway the frames, axles, etc were a gauge heavier than others, which always showed in the higher weight & lower fuel efficiency, traded to an extent for durability. 10000# is not much for towing, and if it's good roads, no front axle load, and mainly a commuter, fuel efficiency & ride comfort may count for more to you (?).
For gains made by other companies, statistically Ford is still tops by a large margin in the fleet market.

The company I work for has about 300 trucks on the road. They are all 2008, 2011, 2014 models.

For 1/2 tons we have F150's and Avalanches for the executive staff with some Silverado trucks mixed in.

We have no 3/4 tons but lots of 1 ton SRW. All are GMC diesels. The 08 and 11's have been very good. The 14's are troublesome. He will not hang a plow on a GM truck due to the front suspension.

For all our dullay trucks we are straight Ford. Yesterday I drove a Crew Cab 08 F350 with 181,000 miles. We have F350, F450, and F550's. My boss feels the Ford's are just tougher due to them all using the same Chassis. Each and every one has a Western V-Plow, about 75 units. We have large plowing contracts like FedEx and Amazon hubs in Indianapolis.

Not a single Dodge in the fleet but we do have some Mercedes and BMW cars.

It seems the Fords up here can't keep the front axle ball joints in them......I'm getting tired of changing them for people.

Since it really is a wash why not get the input from the guys who will be driving it. Make them feel empowered and sounds like the actual decision doesn't matter one way or the other.
I would vote Ford, all the oilfield service companies use them and they get run hard nonstop and still keep on ticking. I had a 2008 F250 Diesel work truck that I put 100,000 miles and 7,000 engine hours on and it still ran good. It did need a set of injectors and the A/C blower went out on me in south Texas (in July!) that truck idled a lot.

What ever you get, an automatic transmission will last longer and present many less problems than a manual. Both manufacturers have good vehicles. Its the way they are handled and the maintenance they receive that determines longevity.

If price for both trucks were close to being the same id start shopping dealers. You're going to have to deal with them for warranty and recall work anyhow. My local Ford dealers are awful, just awful and they've never sold me a truck and probably never will and that has nothing to do with ford trucks. I'm not too hung up on brand loyalty but I am all about a good dealer and the GM people are as good as I'm gonna do around here. They're country people with no fast tricks up their sleeves but they can be slow in the service shop sometimes. So the trade off is honest and slow or get your truck back fast and be shady, what a pickle huh? Shop dealers! You'll thank me later.
