Not true per below, though one of the highest. It may be more a matter of Subaru having very high market share in VT.

Quoting a report from 1989, too funny, OK you win. Here the townships are not regulated by the state as to the amount of de-icers spread/used per mile. We live 20 miles off any interstate and salt usage is much more. Either way doesn't matter. Next time you see an 10 year old Stuperoo with VT plates check out the extra rust. Also we have MUCH more cold, snowy weather than you guys down the I-93 corridor.

Did a cat-back exhaust on an 09 Impreza back in August, parts were bought from the dealer and the cost was $800. 15 minutes to replace.

Subaroos are still a great value no matter what my opinion. The 3.0 H6 is a great motor.

Couldn't find a more recent factual report. What I found interesting was that New England uses so much salt compared to everywhere else. I'd been told Michigan was the salt-use champion, since they sit on top of the mines.

I haven't had the 2006 or 2009 in for the brake lines, guess I should go take a look at them.

$2k is high compared to doing it off-dealer. I had it done for less than $1300 all totaled including the full timing belt/pully/hoses/tensioners/rollers, heads planed, etc.

That doesn't change the fact that a modern engine has no business needing a head gasket changed in 100k miles.

I had ours ('97) done at an independent garage at 140,000 miles as a precaution.

Along with changing the front camshaft seals and oil pump o-ring, it was $1,250 though that was a while ago. Some shops pull the engine, some just pull the heads, not sure that's really less work.

Yeah, those numbers don't include the states in the great lakes snow belt. There's a LOT of salt used in those areas.

The outbacks and legacies are made here in United States in Lafayette Indiana with local steel I believe. I believe the Imprezas are still imported but I believe that's going to change soon. That might have something to do with why the Imprezas are rusting and the outbacks and legacies have not had as many complaints.

The Impreza is indeed still imported. I just bought one off the boat in the spring, and waited 6 weeks for it to arrive in port. Fantastic little automobile IMHO

We NEVER take them to dealers or anyone else who does flat rate repairs. They rush and replace too many parts.

Great piece of advice. I just recently got taken not knowing that the repair place did flat rate repairs. I ended paying probably 2 or 3 hundred dollars more than the work warrantied. Lesson learned for me, the hard way !!

I just recently toured the Subaru plant in Lafayette Indiana. They are getting ready to do a huge expansion so they can start building the Impreza here in Indiana. It is also a zero landfill factory they don't throw anything away. Everything is recycled or sold. Pretty impressive.

Of course that implies that if they build something that is junk they will sell it anyway!

What is impressive is that the complete car rots into the ground in 12 years.

Doing the headgaskets without pulling the engine is asking for trouble, there is no way to get everything clean and dry, also we use the turbo gaskets for better results.

Lot of hackers out there, I'm NOT one of them!
