I have never heard of them. Do you have a link?

I have a Tarter bunk feeder from Tractor Supply. Some of the frame tubing is starting to show rust after less than 1 year.

One of our 14 foot gates is made by Tarter. It is heavier and better made than all of the other gates. It is hung by bolts that go all the way through the post instead of screw - I doubt screws would hold it.

Got several of their 2" gates, been really good. They have took some heavy hits. Got some of their light gates, they bend as any light gate does.

Tarter's gate operation in Dunnville, KY is maybe 30 minutes from me. They are the largest of several gate makers in the south central KY area. You can buy "seconds" directly from them if you make the trip. Or, choose from several other gate makers. Tarter also makes rotory mowers, drag boxes, etc, etc. sold by TSC and others. My place had some white painted Tarter gates in place when I bought it. At ten or eleven years old, they have some rust from a chain banging around where I have some double gates set. Other than that they are okay.

Do a search on "Casey County, KY Gates" for Tarter's website along with a few other makers.

Any powder coated gate or panel is going to rust. I always go with galvanized though they too will eventually show rust at the welds.

The best gate, albeit pricey, I ever used was made by Rohn (think communication and windmill towers, etc. ) who eventually sold off that branch as I recall. I don't even know if they are still available? Anyway, they used a heavier stock which they notched at the cut. Welded up so that the notch was on the bottom, they would hot dip them and the galvanizing would coat inside and out. Working with them, you knew that they were built well because it would take two men and a boy to set one due to the weight, lol!

The only issue was that bees got into the horizontal piping because of that notch. With the usual butt welded pipe gates you only have to worry abouth the vertical pipes.

I have a few more generic 17 year old light gauge galvanized gates that rusted through and need to be replaced. I have replaced two with Preifert gates. I think I am using their bull gates. Bull Gates

I have Tarter gates because that's what they stock at TSC, which is about the only place in my area to keep an inventory. I first bought the heavy duty galvanized ones but within a month some lowlifes backed into and over them during an attempted burglary [they moved on before breaching my cabin but managed to break into about six other places that night]. So I replaced them with the blue medium duty gates -- cheaper to replace should this trend continue.

I mounted some metal scroll work on top from the old original gates on the place [painted to match - looks good] and found the steel very hard to drill through. I dulled or wore out a number of bits in drilling the holes so I have to think its pretty tough steel.

But there is some rust already - not all their fault. TSC stacks them and drags them and they get scratched so rust starts there. And the chain wears through the paint so rust starts there. And there's some where the hinges are attached. But overall, they sell a lot of these and TSC generally knows what its doing so I would have confidence in buying them.

I asked some people I know who makes the best gate around here etc. and found out that Tarter owns many but not all of the larger manufacturers in the area.
