You need to lie down behind the machine. If you are a hefty individual it is helpful to remove to drawbar. On the front side of the differential, you will feel a knurled ring about 2 inches in diameter. It is a spring loaded clamp that pretty much works the same way as a quick disconnect for the hydraulics or an air line. Slide the ring forward and the shaft should separate.
If you think its a beotch coming off wait till spring time!

thanks - slide the ring forward towards the front of the mower? sorry for the stupid question the video i saw makes it look like the opposite direction. the slide ring is on the mower unit so it would have to be forward - yes?

Thank you.

Ok got it off - the pins were very tight and had to tap them out with a hammer and screwdriver. a lot of resistance compared to the video - and **** is that deck heavy! seems to be well made.

Heavy is an understatement. I tried to prop mine on end for storage last season and dam near dropped a nut. With two people it wasn't bad.

Another suggestion for the OP to get that PTO off with less effort.... remove it FIRST before detaching it from the frame. I do it with the mower raised as high as it will go.... i find that the less of an angle off the pto, the easier to get the shaft off. And be sure to keep a light coat of grease on both the PTO and the shaft... makes all the difference.

Anyone else get crappy "keychain" style rings to secure the pins on their MMM and scalp wheels? I replaced mine with Linch and R pins. That alone shaved a good 2-3 min off my swap time.

I couldn't agree with you more. I spent ~$15 and got a box of assorted clevis pins at my local Tractor supply. Went right thru and changed out every keychain that I could. Makes all the difference when changing implements.

They used that style retainer, because they had trouble with the conventional styles coming out, and getting lost.

I thought the same too but figured I'd try the quick release option of the clip. if I do have an issue I can always go back.

I use do more bucket work than grass with this new tractor at the moment. have an older 23 hp garden tractor for cutting. Until it poops out.
