Looking at the the other vids linked from there ... I saw an idea I've never heard of before. A logger bogged down his tractor in mud. he lashed short logs to the outside edges of his rear tires. This gave him 'super cleats' and he drove right out.

This rig with the logs outside the tires just looks moderately dangerous, especially because he used longer logs than necessary.

I think the suicidally dangerous practice is when some idiot lashes a single log across from one rear tire to the other. After the rear axle turns 3/4 a revolution forward, the log rotates up behind the operator and crushes him. Add old Ford 9N specs - no differential lock and a too-tall first gear that requires revving the engine to get started - and you have a recipe for certain disaster.

Never trust equipment to do what you wanted it to do, when your life depends on it.

man that Volvo sounds better than my cummins. And now I know how to drift on my 1700. haha. That is pretty cool using the logs. I thought they looked a little long and im not sure I would want to do it myself though.

I don't think there would be great danger if we put the Yanmars in creep gear. It would take half a day for the log to make a revolution.

That log trick was cool, have to remember that if I get stuck in the sand again. Maybe do away with the rubber tires and just go with a log spoke wheel.
