50 hour fluid change

Hopefully this picture will show up. I am just doing the 50 hour service on my Kioti DK45SE gear model right now. This is what the rear drain plug with the magnet looked like. Pic on the right has the filings half wiped off to give an idea of depth and height. I don't know who all has run a Wet Surface Grinder, but that is what the filings on the magnet remind me of. Only wet with oil instead of coolant. If the attachment doesn't work you'll have to copy/paste the url.

While the hydraulic fluid looks very clean, I'll not be putting it back in this tractor. I'm rather cheap, but I'm hoping this one will last for the rest of my days.

Mine looked really good. I put it in the empty container from the new fluid. Let it settle a week and then used it to change the fluid in my log splitter. That fluid was in bad shape and had metal bits in it. It has a screen filter on the inflow line and a Hyd fluid on the exit line.

On my HST Kubotas, and I suspect Kiotis will behave the same way, you can replace hydraulic and HST filters without draining the fluid. But you may need a couple tricks. Cap of any breathers (I use a nail to plug the breather tube on the transmission case on Kubotas). Some people also pull a vacuum on the fill port on the transmission with a shop vac, but I have never found that necessary. I also park the tractor on an incline or blocks/ramps so that the filter is "uphill".

Doing that procedure correctly, I have never lost more than 1/2 quart of fluid when changing both filters, and most times it's just whatever fluid was in the filters. You can top off to replenish anything that was lost, so have a couple quart bottles around. Last time I forgot to plug the breather and lost about 3/4 quart before I realized what was happening. Still not a whole lot.

You can evaluate the situation by looking at the filters when they come off. Normally the magnetic ring is there, and either gets reused or you get a new one with the new filter. Look at the old ring to see how much metal is on it, and the size of the particles (should be a fine gray fuzz/sludge, but there may be some small chips). See if any larger chips are stuck in the filter ports and ports on the filter mount.

I remember someone on here posted pictures a few years ago with a handful of metal shavings jammed around the filter ports. That was abnormal, and would be a reason for concern. I believe he got in touch with Kubota on that one and talked with engineers. Seriously, it looked like the nest of shavings I see in the bottom of a lathe tray after turning a part!! It was scary. Looked like the transmission case was not properly cleaned out when it was machined during manufacturing.

Good tips. Thanks! I'll look into seeing if they transfer to the Kioti.

Threepoint, I can confirm S219's tip for tilting the tractor works for the DK Kioti's. Mine is a DK35. I run the right side up on two 6" high wood blocks to change the hydraulic filter and then run it up on the left side for the HST filter. I don't need to plug the breather tube and, as S219 says, the only oil lost is that which comes out with the filters.

Something not mentioned in the Kioti DK manuals are the drain plugs on each of the final drives. They are lower than the main drain plug. If changing the hydraulic oil they should be opened so all the oil is drained.

This may not apply to the Kioti NX's.

Just changed all my fluids yesterday. I had a lot of metal shavings on my drain plug also. I also used a strap wrench for the filters. Took some muscle but got both of them off without too much trouble. I bought the strap wrench at Home Depot, HUSKY brand.

Can anyone share the part number for the oil and HST filters for the ck2510hst? I'm not having much luck and my dealer is over one hour away.

Hyd oil filter = T2185-38031 HST filter = T2195-38031 Least that's what my Kioti dealer supplied me with and they match what's on the tractor. Been on for 40 hrs since 50 hr service.
