Never change engine oil brands?!?!

As long as you use quality products that meet the engine manufacturers specs and the equipment is in good shape to begin with, you are golden. Old wives tales are just that 'tales'. Originally they were probably based on a real world observation (along with a big dose of assumption and conjecture) but that was a long time ago and many things have changed except the tale.

agree w/above. as long as your choice is diesel rated (as mentioned) you'll be fine. for your location, one might consider rotella t6 5/40 for those extremes but it's a personal choice & not to derail the thread.

I can switch oils??? Boy, that IS good news. It has been quite hard to find Arco Graphite these days.

LOL I worked in a ARCO station in HS back in the 70's..customers would go nuts when the garage mechanic changed their oil and put that in..they accused him of using used motor oil

That stuff sure worked good on our tractor that had a sticky lifter. Now there are oil additives that have molybdenum disulfide in them.

It used to be that at least some synthetics shrank seals. Change to them on an old engine [worn seals] could cause leakage. I dont know if this has been taken care of. Thats the only thing I know of to be concerned about.

I don't think it so much shrunk seals but more cleaned out the sludge and that made an engine find leaks.
