Somethings never change, just the way it is when you have people together. Way back in the day, 2003 I believe, I got involved in a religion discussion that got way out of hand here. I think it was the source for the rules we have at TBN.

What is great is that didn't stifle the growth of TBN nor did it weaken the passions when it comes to what brings us together.

Sadly, Roy, in the relatively few posts in this thread, we have the answer why the other thread got off track. The people who take threads off track will always believe they were justified in doing so. You do not have to be religious to be self righteous.

I don't disagree...and I will (and hope others do) report any post that diverts from the original thread intent.
Discussions of calibers are fine...we all have our opinions.
Discussions of rights or whether people should own/possess/bear firearms are not. And, it's up to we members to ensure violating posts are removed.

Well opinions are like ******** , everyone has one and they all stink. :)
I think all gun threads should only be opened in Friendly Politics as I cannot imagine any such thread not becoming contentious in a short time. That includes technical threads about guns as well, like "what caliber should I use for moose hunting" It matters not that a poster just asks a simple question about guns or ammunition, since guns are a hot button issue for many people.. There are people out here that love guns and shooting, and people that not only hate guns and shooting but hate those of us that love it. Of course bringing religion into the mix, just throws gasoline on the fire.

Another issue is (and I am very guilty of this) is that I pay no attention to what forum I am on. I look at today's posts, ALL posts in ALL forums. Any posts that interests me from its title, I will open it and comment on it if I can help. I have certainly said things I should not have said because I was not paying attention to what forum the post was posted in.

Well said.

No argument here Roy, I was just brought up not to tattle.

TBN is a community, albeit a virtual community, but a community nonetheless. Hopefully, you don't follow this same practice when you see someone breaking the rules in your physical community.

Your expectations are not consistent with the thread topic. The thread trajectory was entirely predictable.

The closed thread title was "How many have a concealed carry permit to carry a gun?" Unless posters limited their answers to "I do" or "I don't" the discussion will inevitably turn to how difficult, or not, and why, and what they think about the situation regarding obtaining the permit is in their locations. That leads directly to political influences, the judicial and social interpretation of associated rights.

I suppose it is self-righteous to point out the obvious.

To a degree, yes depending on severity. Don't get me wrong, I want the threads to be civil and open and rude comments and posters to refrain from doing so but its not my job but you feel free.

In my neighborhood I wii report crime but not call the dog catcher on a roaming dog, again, each situation is judged.

Back to the OP......

I agree, I didn't run to mom and tell her everything that went on either.

You are right Roy, it always seems like just a handful of poster are able to shut down a TBN Thread by ignoring the rules. You would think that the moderators could enforce the rules on the violators instead of a total shutdown.

This is how this whole country is being run, by a few that ignore the rules.

If people do not report posts that need pruned and there are too many replies, replies with quotes, etc., the 'good' and 'bad' posts become so intertwined, not unlike a hedgerow left untended, it becomes too time consuming, if not impossible, to prune and is closed.
