I am considering purchasing a Kubota RTV 500 over a Polaris Ranger 570. Any advice?

I went through process 2 years ago. I ended up with RTV 900, and a big Kubota fan-but when I was considering a smaller machine I was sold on the Polaris. You are not going to do serious work with either machine-the Polaris impressed as being as utilitarian as the 500, but the Polaris offered much better performance, ride and handling than the Kubota.

In the end, I realized I would be the machine mostly for work, and the increased capacity and the hydraulic dump bed convinced me to spend another 4000 dollars and buy the
900.

I bought the rtv 500 a few years back and love it. I went shopping for a four wheeler and ended up with the 500. For me, the machine is for light work, not trail riding, and easy on the budget. There's times I'd appreciate the 900 but at the end of the day, between the tractor and 500, I get everything done. If you don't have a tractor and will be doing heavier work such as snow plowing, I'd be considering the 900.

Regarding the decision between kubota or polaris, if you prefer riding trails and handling at high speed the polaris will be better for you. If you will be working it hard you can't go wrong with a kubota. Also, research the difference between the transmissions of each machine you are considering. Kubota's transmission was a selling point for me.

One more thing, I recall an advertisement a while back for a new line of kubotas to compete with the trail machines, more ground clearance and better suspensions. I haven't researched them much but that might be an option too.

Good luck!

Own a Kubota RTV1140. It's a workhorse and fun machine. Grands, wife and I love it. Can't imagine living without it now after 3 or 4 years ownership. Not fast but a worker. Here's the TBN ATV?RTV forum for more specific info about different ones.

Thanks, guys. I like the size of the Kubota 500, but was concernrd about it having only half the horsepower of the polaris 570.

Before you buy, just be real about what YOU, and only YOU, are going to use the vehicle for. What speeds and work are YOU going to do with it? Test drive them and test drive them again. Then decide. I knew I was going to do heavy work at low speeds with mine so I bought a RTV900. There are better ones for OTHER jobs but I feel that I bought the correct one for ME.

I use my Polaris around the farm but I also do trail riding--Kubota rtv would be useless on a trail unless you're a snail

Or loaded up with firewood and saws.......maybe the splitter being towed too.
