I've inherited a Long 2610 tractor built in the 90's.

It's got a Bush Hog 2400 QT front end loader on it, and it works well ... but ONLY when the 3 point hitch control is held in the "move down" position.

It appears to have been this way for a long time; my dad had that 3 point control lever bungeed to be held down so the bucket would work.

I recently too the tractor in for general service, and I asked them about this. They said "this loader isn't the right one for this tractor" and that they couldn't do anything about it, but I'm skeptical.

Any of you hydraulic wizards know what's up with this ?

I've found the manual for the loader .. I'll link it here -> http://www.rtach.com/pics/2400QT.pdf

Thanks !

From what I read in the manual, the PTO pump supplies the fluid for the loader and returns to the reservoir.

The loader should be independent from the tractor except the PTO needs to be running.

Well hrm .. the loader works without the PTO turning, unless my tractor has 2 PTO's and I'm not clever enough to know that (ENTIRELY possible, I'm a complete newbie at all of this)

The manual talks about the loader using a PTO pump on the PTO shaft.

If your are using tractor hyd, then I am not sure.

Where does your loader valve get it's hyd supply from, directly off the hyd pump or from the side or rear of the tractor?

I'll go out and check this afternoon .. tractor is about a 20 min drive away from my PC :)

Thanks so much for your help here .. back with more info and pix soon.
