L3800 power steering problem

   / L3800 power steering problem #21
One of my complaints for my L3800 is lack of backhoe and front end loader hydraulic power. I expected more out of this machine when I bought it new. Maybe my hydraulic pump is set low s well? I do know that some people had sizable gains out of their machines and Kubota sets them on the very conservative side pressure wise. So far nobody from Kubota has made an effort to contact me after I spoke with the warranty administrator at my dealership. I'll give them a week and keep pestering them until I get a response.

Still trying to talk to a service rep from Kubota; I've written two emails and I contact my dealer warranty rep every week. 4 weeks into this and Kubota has pretty much done nothing to help me with my problem. In fact it seems they don't even want to discuss or even entertain any type of resolution. I'm not looking for free parts just some price break on a $1200 part that failed from a $4 hydraulic seal that you can not order on a non-serviceable ball screw. Unreal, I've never experienced such poor customer service. Maybe those green tractors with a deer on them is worth the extra purchase price.

BTW, I lifted this off their global web page.

1. Responding to Customer Requests and Complaints
• When we receive requests or complaints from our customers, we place ourselves in their situation and respond promptly and accurately.
• We work on customer requests and complaints to improve quality and avoid future customer dissatisfaction, and we also make appropriate disclosures of necessary information regarding serious quality problems.

Sorry But I'm not feeling it; sounds great but the real procedure is to dodge and hide behind their anonymity.

How many hours do you have on your tractor?
Have you ever changed your hydraulic filters?
If not the filters could be plugged up with metal shavings from the factory manufacturing debris.
I would start by replacing those filters and checking your hydraulic fluid levels.

Currently there is 208 hours and I follow the maintenance schedule to the letter. The steering box was leaking out of the steering input shaft which is essentially the ball screw component. The ball screw is an unserviceable unit so you have to buy the whole ball screw for $914 for a $4 oil seal. It got progressively worse to the point it was leaving puddles across my pole barn cement floor. I just came off warranty by about 20 days when I noticed the issue.

In some areas the consumer product warranty is automatically extended for the days out of service due to a warrantable repair.

Was this the first occurrence of the problem or ANY warranty service when the tractor was out of service?

When I was involved with warranty/manufacturer's defect issues... often the manufacturer would offer parts or split the cost of the part... labor was almost never covered.

I've been reading this thread because we also have an L3800 that so fat at 180 hours has done all asked of it.

This is the first issue on this tractor and all I'm trying to do is get a break on the ball screw component $914 or the whole steering box which is $1200. I advised the warranty person at the dealer I would pay for the part; I just need some help on the cost because it was no fault of my own that a defective $4 seal let go. They've dicked around for 4 weeks now and it is getting a bit aggravating. I work for an auto manufacturer and we discount or provide parts to customers all the time through our after sales network. That's all I'm asking for here so I don't see what their reluctance is to offer some sort of goodwill here. All I can say is if you have a tractor with a warrantable issue get it fixed or face the type of shenanigans I'm dealing with right now.
