Some father and son bonding time while chopping wood before the Michigan game. Got a start on some splitting.

That rack was built using brackets bought at Tractor Supply. It made building it really quick as I just needed four 8' pressure treated two by's.

Hate to hear about your ram. I use a blood test to preg check cattle. Closest lab is about an hour away for me. They use a testing procedure called BIOPRYN. They also have a test for sheep and goats by the same name. Look them up to find a lab close to you. Cost at my lab for the sheep testing is $6.50 plus about $1 for supplies per head. Not bad in my book.

Splitting wood is a great way to spend time with your son.

If it is that inexpensive I may have to look it up. Just so I can be sure.

It was a nice way to spend some time with my son. My younger son wanted to help later in the afternoon but he is too small to chop. He helped stack though.

I have taken books with me hunting before. I find myself getting too involved in the story and not looking and listening for game. But the time does pass quicker.

We tanned a few skins when I was a kid. It's lots of work and the results were always just so so. But here is a link to a Google search on the subject. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=how%20do%20i%20tan%20a%20sheepskin

With Google and You Tube, you can learn how to do just about anything. Good luck.

I have never tanned anything. Although I have interest just not time or facility. But I have heard that you can use the animals brain and water for a tanning solution. That animals brain is enough to tan it's hide. Sure there are synthetic tanners out on the market.

We used the brains. And lots of salt.

I have watched some YouTube videos, many of Dave Canterbury's, on tanning and brain tanning hides. Might be what I have to do. Just not sure when I will find time.
