Hope you feel better now. Glad you got that off your chest. There are more definitions of being a jerk . I always thought the definition of being a jerk was getting a response from someone who clearly does not read a thread, but places assumptions within a response to it. Im not oblivious to asking questions on any forum, or putting comments on any forum, your response doesnt surprise me. Simply, was dissapointed in the situation that I felt I was in. If your box of cheerios cost 5 bucks at cosco, then drive to walmart and find it for 3.50, are you pleased with your buy? Nothing you can do after you buy it, but if you didnt buy them cheerios YET, well, thats a different story.

Way to much typing, I am working out something with the local guy. My next post will be of some pics of a new machine in my barn!

I read the thread. You whined because people told you you didn't do your research, then you found a better price. I wouldn't want you as a customer if I was selling tractors or Cheerios. I don't shop at Costco or Walmart. Too many price is only factor whiners.....

I've read the entire thread. I think we are all capable of making less than perfect decisions and judgement calls on occasion. The important fact in this situation is that at the end of the day both parties reached a satisfactory agreement. And a relationship was formed with a local dealer that will be beneficial in the future.
To the OP- enjoy your new machine!

I started to read all the posts but changed my mine.
Talk to the dealer, ask about a break in price or adding an implement of two, his cost will be less on implements/attachments so he won't lose as much money.
As stated in the postings I read, if you buy somewhere else after setting a price and ordering from them when it comes time for repairs either the repairs will take a lot longer, may never be done, or the labor rate will go up. Forget about the warranty repairs, you will be at the bottom of the list.
Asking will not hurt anything but you did agree and you will need service, so if the dealer can't come through, bite the bullet and pay up.

I guess I'm with the suck it up group. You were apparently happy with the deal to make it so what has changed. One thing I have learned with many dealings is that you need to be very very careful with the details. Not all deals are what they seem. There is no harm in asking the dealer for a better deal but realize the responsibility is yours to make the best deal at the time. Don't come back at a later date and complain.

I love how proud and righteous everyone is on the internet when it's not their money.

Facts

Went to dealer to get tractor. It's on the lot
Decided on model. Dealer to get backhoe in from other dealer 20 miles away--no price set
Decide on price day 1
Hear back from barlows the next day for 2k less
Makes deal with original dealer by having them throw in a thumb

He didn't special order it and put them out. If you are willing to spend 2k more for the same thing than I would say that is pretty fiscally irresponsible. I personally bought from my local dealer but would've gone elsewhere for that large of a price gouge. My dealer came in the lowest and then sweetened the deal further due to them being hungry and appreciating their customers.

Agree. You don't owe the dealer even an apology if they didn't order it for you. Works out well, and I must say the dealer isn't out much at all, and you will be less likely to flip the finger every time you drive by.

I for one hate paying any more than I have to. I'm always looking for the best price. But having said that, keep in mind that a price difference, however significant between two vendors does not necessarily equate to a 'gouge'. Many factors come into play including dealer incentives, when inventory was purchased , out of area tax credits, etc. Just a different perspective to consider. Terry
