we actually use the tire rim. works great. put some rocks around it and it kinda has rusted up and blends in.

I like the rim idea, especially from a recycle standpoint. I still want to fabricate something a little bigger. I guess around here it is hard to find big rims!

Way, way back in my wood burning days. I built several wood stoves, and fire place inserts for friends, and family. Can't say I ever built a fire pit tho. I always used 1/4-inch thick material, but also used fire brick.

Just get an old tractor rim. Modify as you see fit. I've had intentions for this one, but it works fine as is.

Agreed. The best ones I ever saw were no more than big and wide tractor rim. Auctions and tractor boneyards are where to look if interested.

I took an old burned up floor fan from the barn and cut the guts out of it. I have used it a year and it may last another year. I save the blades out of it also. I'm going to mount them on top of my mule to make a helicopter out of it.

Several times an anti-warp rim has been mentioned. How about making that rim 3 to 4 inches wide, and level, for a food warming place.
