What has flue season been like for you?

My flue season usually goes something like this:
First, I get my shot - bourbon works best for me.
Sometimes I have to get a second shot - I'm really afraid of heights.
Get the ladder & go up on the roof with the brushes & rods and clean those darned flues.
Get off that roof, fast as I can.
Put all the stuff back in the garage.
Get another shot to steady my hands.
Try to remember why I dread flue season.
It's really not that bad.
I'll drink to that.

I had an old time nurse tell me if you knew what was in that flu shot , it would make you run . She stated if they try and make me take one in this hospital where I work I will quit first . My wife gets one every year, I never do . All the more power to those who get one it is a personal choice for sure and they have more than likely saved a few lives let alone not get the flu .

I used to be able to go back and correct the title if I did it within a half hour, under advanced options or something.

As far as the flu shot - about 20 years or so ago my wife and I "skipped" the flu shot, but fortunately we made sure our four children got the shot, thank heavens. SWMBO and I got the flu and spent about a week flat on our backs, mostly on opposite couches, at times barely able to get the kids taken care of.

We make it a point to get it ever since.

We are just starting to see the flu, type A mostly, here in SC. In the USAF I was given the flu shot yearly, no choice. Have taken it sporadically over the years. Have had the flu as many times with the shot as without. The flu shot is a low risk intervention and I recommended for everyone for whom the flu could be a serious illness and for those who want it. My employer recently made the flu shot mandatory:get one or get fired (medical or religious exemptions can be requested). There is no scientific evidence to support such a policy. I requested an exemption and did not take the flu shot on principle. If it represents that level of health risk it should be required by the state governments the way Hep B vaccinations and TB testing are.

I have found that for a normal, healthy individual the main value of a flu shot is that if you get the shot and then get the flu, people are sympathetic. If you do not get the shot and then get the flu, no one feels sorry for you.

I'm bound to get the flu this year.

I never take the flu shot. Haven't had the flu in over 20 years.

This year, it really doesn't matter since they missed the target with their mix.

How do you know they missed it? Seems too early. It happens fairly frequently. Our technique for telling is purely anecdotal but when we have a bad season and still see a lot of patients test positive who had the shot we guess they got the mix wrong.
