question for the network gurus

Android has a standard, all its own.....

i agree. hard to believe there is any problem at all with my home network and range extender when ALL my other wifi devices use it fine.

there is an older winxp netbookt he wife has that even uses the range extender, though complains now and then that it can't authenticate, however the entire time is says that you can browse the internet and check email.

At the time, yes, when I had it home I had it forget the others.

Having had it home again to test it, however been using it at work the last few days. It finds restaurant , portable hotspots and phone hotspots just fine. In fact I having had it come up with another WiFi it don't like. It likes some WiFi that my phone doesn't. Go figure. For instance, Bob Evans and IHOP WiFi my phone won't use, but Sonny's OK. This tablet likes em all.


Beginning to think its something like that. Is my phones likes most but not all, this tab likes most, but not mine..

Have been too busy to dink with it at home again so far, I just email or drop box my stuff leaving work and grab it on my surface at home then do the same returning to work.

May bee over the holiday if I get time I'll hammer it out.

Really count want to mod the home network and risk screwing up all the existing connections I already have working flawlessly so that a 50$ work tablet works.

If you haven't done it yet, I would tell the work tablet to "forget" the extender, the try reconnecting to the extender.

I agree that the problem is probably a phone configuration since the extender works for all fo your other devices. I don't have any android devices so I can't be specific, but things I would check on the device are:

- Is it really connecting to the extender properly? Does it get an IP? Possibly it is just showing you cached pages and then when you try to send/receive it fails because it is not really connected. Try using other apps that use wifi and see if they are able to function.
- What "type" of network does it have your extender configured as? In windows terms, does it think that the extender is a Home or Work network? If it believes the entender is a Public or untrusted network, it may not be willing to send/receive data on it.
- Are there any security or firewall settings that could be configured for the extender's network on the android device?

I just read the original post and came up with a solution immediately, get a smaller house.:cool2:
