rear end looks funky to me. like there was a backhoe on this machine at one time or another. or some other piece of large attachment on the rear end. maybe a weight box?
the engine panels. how they bolt in the top center is something else as well.

the fenders and FEL, could be third party or someones DIY repair thing / add-on...

sorry not much help, more interested in looking at the tractor, more than anything else!

Where the heck is Sound Guy when you need him?

Looks like a 3500 maybe

IIRC the 3000 and 3500 would both have outboard mounted cast drum brakes.

Here is a pic I found of what I think you have: $_57.JPG

Ford made some great machines in their day. That would be a real workhorse if it's working good.

Boggen - I think there was a backhoe attachment at some stage but its not longer part of the package.

Kubota81 - I'm beginning to discount the 3500 theory. too many things don't stack up.

Milkman636 - what you are saying is why i'm leaning toward the 4500. I reckon the pic is it, but like iv'e said, the C in the serial number throws me a bit.

I'd probably start trying to differentiate which engine it has in it. The 4500 would have had a 201 cubic inch motor from the factory, the 3000 series tractors had 175 c.i. diesels. Working from memory I couldn't give you a specific path to follow though. Does the block look to be original? Are there signs it was ever split apart?

No signs of it being split but i'm not discounting it yet. There is also a glass fuel bowl, similar to what is on the petrol motors so that lines up with the 2 in the serial number but it has a diesel motor in it. I've seen a similar one up the road from me so i'm going to call in and see if I can have a look at that one and see what similarities there are.

The "C" number is the serial number. C indicates built in Michigan. The "DD" number is a post 1975 model number. I can' t decode all of it but I'm thinking it is whatever came after the 4500 like a 515 or 535. The year is most likely 1976. I have a 1966 4400 industrial.

It is a 4000 series from 1976 given the serial number and the seat design. I'm pretty foggy on the specifics as I've been away from there for decades now. It looks like the 3-point linkage can be added and you'll be in business. The backhoe hydraulic supply and return lines have been joined and now hang a bit low.
