Recommendation on transfer pump

Many of the diaphragm pumps seem to crack the fitting on the tank. Must be all the working back & forth leading to metal fatigue. I would stay away from the diaphragm pumps for that reason. Have not seen the same tank damage with manual rotary pumps.

The pump I bought from Northern Tool (Norhern Hydrolics) Was the Roughneck 12 volt 8 gpm fuel transfer pump, item #37906-2551. That was the part number out of the catalog. The part number in my invoice is #37906. It was on sale for $129 plus shipping $12.29. I also got the two year replacement plan for an additional $25..

I bought a reman GPI pump for 150$ off Ebay. It was remaned by GPI per the tag and came with a 1 year warranty. Works pretty good, pump about as fast as a gas pump at the fuel station.

Well it stopped raining and warmed up some so I got back out in the barn and finish hooking up my transfer pump. I did add a spin on filter. The wire harness is only about 6'. Not enough to reach the battery and the pick up tube will not reach the bottom of my 55 gallon fuel barrel. I will need to add a length of 1" pipe for that. For now I power it with a battery charger. The only down side is that it is not weather proof. Not a big deal sense it is in the barn. Overall I think it will be OK. I did add a 33" black iron pipe nipple to get to the bottom of my fuel barrel. It pumps good and is fairly quiet

The pics on the NT site show this pump mounted on a pickup truck tank. So I guess I don't understand what they're definition of "not weather proof" is. Also, I don't see the words "weatherpoof" in the manual.

The information in the owners manual says this. "When the pump is in transit, do not expose the pump to direct sunlight and avoid rain, falling, corrosive substances, etc." This is exactly as it is written in the manual. To me, that means it is not weather proof. Or in other words keep it out of the rain.

What does that mean: "When the pump is in transit...."?

So the seller's pics show it mounted to a pickup truck bed tank, but then says it's supposed to kept it out the rain. Doesn't jive.

You drive your truck in the rain and when it's sunny out? That's no way to keep a transfer pump working right!

I have the fill rite pump from northern. Been very happy with them. I think I'm on my third one. Haven't worn any of them out yet.
